The patient care assistant will be directly responsible for the safe completion of delegated duties and assisted patient care. To provide support and assistance to patients and staff as required. To assist the radiographers, radiologists and nurses with the examination and care of radiology patients. To assist with clerical procedures and image processing as required. To participate in training to further develop the role.
Main duties of the job
* Check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.
* Establish and maintain a good communication channel to support patient confidence.
* Assist radiologists and radiographers in performing examinations, attending to the patient’s welfare at all times.
* Process images as required.
* Escort patients to other departments as appropriate.
* Be friendly and helpful towards staff, patients, their relatives and friends in all clinical areas and on the telephone.
* Receive patients, relatives and colleagues into the department and direct to the appropriate area.
* Ensure patient’s property is kept in line with Trust Policy.
* Ensure the patients’ environment and all equipment is kept clean and stored safely.
* Use computerised systems to assist the radiographer and to optimise patient throughput.
Person specification
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience of working with the public.
Qualifications and Professional Training
* Good standard of general education including Math’s and English language (GCSE or equivalent).
* NVQ level 2 in Customer Service.
Skills and Abilities
* Ability to assist patients to move using appropriate aids on a frequent basis.
* Ability to transport patients using wheelchair/trolley frequently throughout a normal shift.
* Ability to deal with patients and relatives during distressing situations.
* Ability to apply normal care and attention throughout the shift.
* Ability to deal with competing demands for attention.
* In-house or external certificate of cannulation experience.
Person Qualities
* Good Communication Skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to remain calm under a range of circumstances.
