Location: Stratford, London. Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office)

What will I be doing?
* Leading Cancer Research UK’s Platform Engineering capability (c. 25 to 30 staff) by:
o Recruiting and supporting infrastructure engineers’ career development.
o Providing expert technical guidance and motivational leadership that drives for impact and embraces our mission as a collective effort.
* Collaborating with peers to evolve and deliver the platform engineering strategy while developing platforms and products that are reliable, secure, performant, and flexible.
* Collaborating with Product Portfolios and Product Managers to deliver their priorities.
* Developing the Platform Engineering capability model while collaborating with Lead Engineers to develop standards and reusable assets and encourage knowledge sharing.
* Partnering with internal and external stakeholders ensuring a mature approach to architecting new solutions, giving estimates and commitments; and delivering on agreed commitments while optimising the efficiency of the team.
* Prioritising and leading on skills and career development within the Platform team.
* Fostering collaborative relationships with the others in the Engineering first-line team and across the Technology directorate to ensure appropriate levels of governance, platform reliability, efficiency and quality of delivery.
* Ensuring equality and diversity are celebrated and considered as part of all decisions taken.
* Taking accountability for line managing, leading, and developing an inclusive and high-functioning team.
* Setting objectives and KPIs (key performance indicators) for the team, monitoring and tracking over-performance with recognition, and supporting underperformance through a performance management process.
What skills will I need?
* Experienced engineering leader who has recruited, developed, and engaged infrastructure engineering teams in large, complex organisations.
* Excellent knowledge of the fast-moving technology landscape with a particular focus on cloud engineering.
* A technical expert and a motivational leader with mature stakeholder management skills.
* A comprehensive understanding of the software delivery lifecycle, infrastructure lifecycle management, and different delivery approaches (including DevOps and Agile).
* Strong communication skills with the ability to translate highly technical subjects for non-technical audiences.
