Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Are you looking to move on from working 'out of hours' and to progress to a Band 7 team leader position in Blood Transfusion?
Royal Preston Blood Transfusion is a highly advanced UKAS accredited laboratory offering remote release refrigerators in all main areas, supported by the Haemonetics Blood Tracking solution. In addition, we operate a bespoke Blood Transfusion LIMS with full electronic product tracking, full ward patient lookup including sample validity, e-issue suitability, and issued products with location. This dramatically cuts down on telephone enquiries, paperwork, and departmental disruption.
The department is also fully automated with three well-established Biorad IH-1000 immuno-haematology analysers.
You will work in tandem with the Transfusion practitioners and blood safety coordinator to deliver safe transfusion services across sites.
This is a full-time, permanent post.
Main Duties of the Job
You will ensure that legal requirements of the Blood Safety & Quality Regulations S1 2005/50 are adhered to, along with standards set by the CQC, UKAS, NICE & MHRA, achieved by the Trust in relation to Blood Transfusion.
Working with clinical staff and Transfusion practitioners, you will ensure that blood transfusion is carried out by trained and competent staff and that blood transfusion practice is benchmarked against national standards.
Your duties will include supporting the team in the day-to-day organization, management, and supervision of a laboratory area to ensure delivery of a timely, quality service. You will be expected to take an active role in the training and development of staff and to have good communication skills. You will be expected to participate in the Senior management meetings to understand and support delivery of the operational services as well as deputize in the absence of the Lead BMS and other Team Leaders.
Applicants must be HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists and should hold an MSc qualification in Blood Transfusion or Haematology. You will enable the Trust to improve safety and effectiveness in the practice of Blood transfusion by fulfilling the recommendations of the NHSBT Patient Blood Management Team (including HSC 2007/001 'Better Blood Transfusion').
