HEAD OF SUSTAINABILITY
My award-winning London-based client is looking for a Head of Energy and Sustainability to join their office in vibrant SE1.
You will be supporting and advising the directors and engineers on developing, promoting, and implementing the energy and sustainability aspects of their projects, whilst representing the company, winning projects, and bringing in new business.
This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a growing team, working on a diverse range of projects across a variety of different sectors including Commercial, Residential, Healthcare, Education, and Retail.
ABOUT YOU:
You want to work in a fast-paced, friendly, and collaborative team and:
1. You have 10+ years relevant experience
2. Are degree qualified in a relevant discipline, ideally to Masters level
3. Have management experience to lead, develop and grow the ESD team
4. Are an initiative-taker with regards to BD, with the ability and drive to win new business
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
You'll have excellent TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, with:
1. A full understanding of Building Regulations Part L
2. An understanding of the requirements of The London Plan and other local authority requirements regarding energy
3. Knowledge of the passive design techniques - orientation/glazing ratios/U-values
4. Knowledge of energy modelling, and be able to communicate and manage the building performance work stream
5. Both practical and working knowledge of embodied carbon and Life Cycle Carbon Assessment procedure to be able to manage the workstream and communicate internally and externally
6. An understanding of Sustainability benchmarking including BREEAM and able to communicate and manage the sustainability assessments work stream
7. An understanding of Health and Wellbeing benchmarking and criteria including Well Building Standard and Fitwel, to be able to communicate and manage the Health and Wellbeing offering of the company
8. A working knowledge of Circular Economy to be able to manage the workstream and communicate on the subject internally and externally
You'll have demonstrable COMMERCIAL ABILITY, and be able to:
1. Achieve project profitability
2. Track costs, manage and forecast spend, ensuring that work is kept on budget
3. Manage resources
4. Manage invoicing
You'll have great Business Development skills, and be able to:
1. Identify, target and build relationships with new clients to bring in new business to the company
2. Build relationships with existing clients/referrers, generate leads and secure future business for the company
3. Help new business development initiatives by advising on how the company can differentiate our E&S offer to win new projects
4. Assisting on the completion of tenders and bids
5. Ideate the creation of educational articles on relevant energy and sustainability subjects
6. Make presentations to external parties and potential clients
7. Take part in networking business and industry activities on behalf of the company
8. Attend corporate functions and promote the Company with the objective of raising company and brand profile and securing new business
You'll have tangible management skills, to:
1. Support and supervise our Energy and Sustainability consultancy team and sub-consultants to deliver high quality technical analysis and reports, energy and sustainability strategies, net zero solutions, etc.
2. Provide line management responsibility and representation of the team at the senior management level, including team appraisals, reviews, and training & development
3. Give peer review and authorisation of colleagues' work
4. Successfully manage numerous concurrent projects, to meet both company and client objectives
5. Manage the expectation of others and take ownership of tasks and issues and responsibility for discharging these
