Electronic Design Engineer

Location
The role is based at our Head Office in Ashington, Northumberland.
Purpose of the Job
* Design and development of new, innovative LED lighting products / technology in line with the company’s objectives, product roadmap and quality system.
* Lead design projects from an electronics / electrical design perspective.
* Act as product champion for some of the company’s key products.
* Identify and develop product improvements for existing products through innovation and continuous improvement techniques.
* Research relevant LED, control and drive technology and lead technology adoption / changes in these areas.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Development of new products.
* Maintain up to date project files.
* Progress projects in line with company procedures.
* Produce schematics, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts and Bill Of Materials (BOM) incorporating DFx to allow the efficient production of PCBs and the overall product.
* Research new LED and driver technologies and present findings and recommendations back into the company.
* Participate in the full development cycle and deliver development updates at each checkpoint stage during the product development programme.
* Research competitor products and comparative products from other industries. Identify technologies and features to advance our own products and maintain our position as number 1 in the market.
* Test, document results, and present findings for peer review.
* Ensure our products meet the company’s specifications, customer expectations and adhere to the relevant legislation such as RoHS, REACH, EMC, safety, CE, UL, FCC and other international certification requirements.
* Work closely with other design elements within the technical team (mechanical, optical, industrial design, software) to produce prototypes and proof of concept models.
Reporting to
This role is reporting to the Technical Director.
Working Hours
This is a Full Time position working 08.30 – 17:00 Monday-Thursday, 8.30-2.30 Friday as standard.

Essential Skills
* Degree level qualification in electronic engineering or a similar engineering degree (or qualified to above level by relevant industrial experience).
* Industry experience in a similar role including hands-on product design responsibility.
* A good understanding and demonstrable experience of analogue electronics design.
* A good understanding and demonstrable experience of digital electronics design including embedded microcontroller.
* Extensive knowledge and experience of PCB design using a recognised professional PCB design package, including schematics and PCB layout.
* A good understanding and practical experience of Design For Manufacture & Test.
* A good working knowledge of designing to Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) and safety certification – and an ability to help problem solve EMC issues.
* Able to make a positive contribution to the overall team.
* Good communication skills.
* Good IT skills.

* Excellent judgement, problem solving and critical thinking.
