Balerno High School is a fully comprehensive, non-denominational high school situated in the southwest of Edinburgh. We are proud to be a school community built on strong relationships and a commitment to success. Our school values promote excellence and resilience; and we provide a learning and teaching environment built on respect, honesty and inclusion.
At Balerno we are very proud of our commitment to Health & Wellbeing and Inclusion of all Young People. We are currently seeking to recruit a kind, caring and passionate Pupil Support Officer to join our Integrated Pupil Support Team as we establish an Enhanced Support Provision (ESP). The ESP will be part of our wider Integrated Support Team at Balerno led by our Depute Head Teacher Pupil Support.
The ESP will provide a safe and welcoming approach where positive relationships and trauma-informed practices can help young people achieve their potential. There will be a focus on developing social, emotional and communication skills alongside support to access the academic curriculum.
Experienced PSAs, from either secondary or primary, or those who can demonstrate their experience working with children with additional support needs are encouraged to apply. The role will involve building trusting relationships with children and their families.
All successful candidates will be given training support to help them carry out their roles.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
To help achieve our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
