The Opportunity
We are excited to be looking for an experienced Safety Officer to join the Health & Safety team at Emirates Old Trafford, home of Lancashire Cricket.

Emirates Old Trafford, home of Lancashire Cricket, is an award-winning world-class stadium and venue. It is recognised as one of the UK’s most prestigious venues for sport, business, leisure and entertainment with a capacity of up to 50,000 people for concerts; 26,000 for international cricket matches; meetings and events spaces for up to 2,000 delegates; a four-star hotel with 250 rooms; and an on-site Caffè Nero.
The venue has played host to some of the world’s biggest sporting events, including six ICC Cricket World Cup fixtures in 2019, Ashes Test Matches and world class concerts. In previous years we have welcomed performances from Harry Styles, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and had numerous cricket matches, including England one day internationals and a test match. Key Responsibilities
To support our ambitions to achieve continued growth in the Health & Safety team we are looking for an experienced Safety Officer to join our team. You will be responsible for:
1. Assume responsibilities on behalf of the Club for the provisions of the General Safety Certificate and the Club’s Event Safety Policy Statement
2. Assume control on behalf of the Club on match/event days at the Stadium for spectator safety and security
3. Work alongside relevant departments and crowd safety teams to ensure all events are planned and delivered to exceptional safety and security standards whilst maximising the customer experience
4. Develop excellent relationships with the local authority, SGSA and emergency service providers, including Greater Manchester Police and counter terrorism unit, to deliver continuous improvement of stadium operations
5. Act as the representative of the Club in regular consultation with members of the Safety Advisory Group, the SGSA and other associations on matters associated with the safety and security of spectators
6. Working with all departments to deliver a safe and inclusive matchday experience that reinforces the Club’s values and culture
7. Provide all relevant documentation required relating to the safety operation of an event
8. To be responsible for the supervision of the Deputy Safety Officer(s), Stand Managers, Steward Supervisors, Response Team members and Safety Team Stewards on match days and evaluate their performance and instigate any action that may be required
9. Ensure all staff that are part of the safety operation are trained to the required standards as identified in the Green Guide at minimum and briefed on their duties and what is expected of them during events
10. Liaise with Security Officers to ensure a smooth handover from the Security Control Room to the Event Control Room on match/event days
Essential Requirements
1. NVQ Level 4 in Spectator Safety
2. Proven successful experience as a Safety Officer at a major stadium
3. Possess high levels of influencing and team working skills across all levels of staff with a supportive approach to all colleagues
4. To have the ability to lead people, being able to deal with all types of emergencies demonstrating analytical thinking and strategic judgement
5. In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, crowd management techniques, and emergency response procedures
6. Experience of creating strategic plans and procedures to meet operational and safety requirements
7. Possess considerable knowledge in both the safety and security fields, crowd management and related public disorder strategies within the sport / entertainment environment
8. Significant understanding and awareness of the relevant applicable legislation for venues and major events, including the Safety of Sports Grounds Act and the Green Guide
