We are recruiting an Internal Control/SOX Auditor at our Head Office in Hebburn who will play a crucial role within the Compliance team.

Responsibilities:
* Establish and maintain internal audit plan.
* Perform internal control testing and audits in line with SOX compliance program, and where applicable ISO accreditations.
* Assist with the planning and coordination of annual walkthroughs with process owners within the business on the mapping of existing processes identifying any gaps.
* Assess the effectiveness of processes and controls over financial and operational functions.
* Work with departmental heads to provide recommendations on how to improve or strengthen the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls.
* Ensure the continuous improvement of audit processes and procedures.
* Maintain effective relationships with key business stakeholders.
* Communicate identified control deficiencies to management and compliance committee to mitigate risks within the business.
* Manage and supervise all internal auditing activities for the business and communicate findings via written reports.
* Monitor and update policies and procedures and ensure the policy register is maintained.
* Assist in creating and delivering training programs relating to compliance and internal processes.
* Support the business in ensuring compliance with the GDPR and UK Data Protection legislation.
* Authorise bank payments and maintain the company’s authorised signatories list.
* Occasional travel to other locations as required for internal audit and training purposes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Essential
* GCSE Maths and English (Grade C and above)
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Demonstrable experience gained from working within an Audit/Compliance Department.
* Experience in SOX testing, accounting, auditing, and information technology audits.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Able to show professional scepticism.
* Able to deliver quality results within deadlines.
* Ability to adapt to a changing environment and comply with internal and external business processes.
* Excellent time management skills and strong organisational and planning skills in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to work under pressure and resolve issues that may arise.
* Keeps people informed of progress on key tasks.
* Conducts themselves in a courteous and professional manner.
* Remains focused when faced with competing demands.
* Excellent IT skills, being proficient with applications such as MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred
* Certification in SOX or internal audit.
* AAT qualification or equivalent experience in a finance-related role.
* The ability to build rapport quickly with colleagues and customers.
* Ability to provide assistance and support to colleagues, demonstrating a hands-on approach and a can-do attitude.
