We are delighted to invite applications for a Consultant Breast Radiologist to join an existing team of Consultant Breast Radiologists at University Hospitals of Leicester. The appointment will be up to whole time, a minimum of 5 breast sessions are required for those consultants participating in the breast screening programme. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post on a less than full-time basis.
This post is covering both the screening and symptomatic pathways. The service strives to provide the highest standards of healthcare for our patients from our purpose-built Breast Care Centre at Glenfield Hospital.
Our breast screening programme is one of the largest in the East Midlands. Our Breast Screening population is 160,000. In addition to the screening activity our symptomatic and surveillance demand is approximately 17,000 per year. We are a centre that is actively involved in clinical trials and have successfully secured Tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Mammography equipment. There is also the opportunity to practice a wide range of diagnostic and interventional procedures including breast MRI and increasing use of vacuum assisted biopsy.
Main duties of the job
To undertake programmed activities in breast imaging with the potential for some agreed general duties if appropriate. Opportunities for development of the existing service will be supported where they reflect and support the needs of the local population and the development plans of the trust.o To contribute to the cancer two week wait service and participate in symptomatic breast one stop clinics and other relevant activity.o To contribute to the work of the National Breast Screening Service by ensuring adequate film reading numbers, participation in screening assessment and other relevant activity.o To work closely with the breast clinicians, breast care nurses, breast pathologists and breast surgeons.o To perform breast interventional work, including USS and x-ray biopsy (core or VACB / VACE), USS and x-ray localisations, US guided aspiration, marker insertion.o To supervise and report advanced breast imaging such as MRI and CESMo To lead/take part in multi-disciplinary team meetings.o To undertake programmed activities in general radiology imaging if agreed and appropriate. This may include contributing to the general on call for imaging.o To supervise and train radiology trainees, skill-mix radiographers, sonographers and non-medical staff in their present and anticipated roles.o To support and participate in audit, research, teaching and administration

Job responsibilities

To maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate. As per the Trust requirement the successful candidate will be required to have an annual appraisal and attend / keep fully up to date with statutory and mandatory training as stipulated.
The Breast Imaging Services are an identified unit within the Clinical Support & Imaging Clinical Management Group, (CSI CMG), based at Glenfield Hospital. The post holder will join a team of ten Consultant Breast Radiologists in an established multidisciplinary setting.
The Leicestershire and Rutland Breast Screening Service (LBSS) is one of the largest in the country with a current screening population of approximately 164,000; the first phase of NHSBSP Age Extension has been fully implemented and continues. The symptomatic breast service provides a high quality diagnostic, treatment and management pathway through aone stop clinic. The unit also provides breast cancer surveillance and screening of increased risk patients. Approximately 950 cancers are detected per year. The unit is fully digital and has state of the art equipment, and most recently has introduced Tomosynthesis, MRI Biopsy and Contrast Enhanced Mammography.
The Breast Imaging Team actively leads and participates in audit and research. It undergoes regular NBSS QA and is proud of its record in this service. All the radiologists are part of the RCR Breast Group both participating in, and contributing to national meetings.
All breast radiologists (and advanced practitioners) participate in PERFORMS. There is regular audit of clinical practice interval cancers, MRI, VACB including 1st line, core biopsy sampling and screen reading. The team participate in regular departmental and governance meetings.

* MB BS or Equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or will be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date

* Fully trained in breast radiology including Breast Screening and the requirements of NBSS
