Job Role: Catering Assistant Location: Stranmillis, Belfast Pay rate: £11.94 per hour Duration: Ongoing Hours: Part time Monday to Thursday 445-730pm, Friday 12-3pm (optional) Please note a Basic Access NI check required before commencing role. Your role: To assist and support the food preparation and operation of the hospitality service to enable a high-quality food and beverage service to be provided to a range of customers including staff, students and visitors. Your responsibilities: 1 To assist in the service of food and the clearing and cleaning of all dishes, equipment and areas during the catering service. 2 To provide consistently high standards of customer service at all times when welcoming and serving customers. 3 To assist in food preparation using correct equipment in the correct preparation areas in accordance with food hygiene regulations, practices and procedures. 4 In particular following the Safe Catering "Effective Hand-washing Technique". 5 To assist in ensuring food is appropriately stored in accordance with food hygiene regulations, practices and procedures. 6 To serve customers at the food counter, in accordance with portion sizes and actively promote catering sales. Reporting any customer comments or complaints to the catering supervisors. 7 To ensure correct disposal of waste in accordance with procedures, supervisor's direction and ensure separation for recycling processes. 8 To provide the highest possible standards of cleanliness ensuring that displays, fixtures, fittings, catering equipment, crockery, cutlery, kitchen utensils, tables, chairs and floor surfaces are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, by cleaning manually and/or using dish washing equipment in accordance with hygiene practices and procedures. 9 To operate kitchen equipment e.g. coffee machine and ensure beverages are made as per training. 10 To ensure food products are correctly and attractively displayed, with a knowledge of the food suitable for customers with allergies e.g. nut or dairy allergies or food allergens. 11 To assist in the delivery of hospitality across the College including assisting with preparation, set up, serving and clear up. 12 To provide service in Chatz/Craigantlet Fine Dining Room for college and conference events. 13 To ensure Food Hygiene, Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered to at all times. 14 To ensure the correct handling and use of equipment and cleaning materials. Ensuring correct cleaning products and dilutions of cleaning materials are used. 15 To work in accordance with duty rotas and cleaning schedules and provide cover in all hospitality areas e.g., Coffee shop or Refectory kitchen or Chatz Scholars and Coffee Trailer as required. 16 To report defective equipment, utensils, floor surfaces, loss or damage etc. to the catering supervisors. 17 To ensure a high standard of personal hygiene, maintaining a high standard in appearance and uniform. And wear protection clothing and gloves provided by the College. 18 To carry out any reasonable duties as requested. You will have: 1. Previous experience in a catering or hospitality environment. 2. Previous experience of food preparation in a catering environment. 3. Experience of operating a coffee machine and serving customers in a catering setting. 4. Experience of operating a till and cash handling. 5. Food Hygiene Certificate.
