The job itself
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a new role overseeing the education of children with an EHC plan who are unable to access education in a school.
Most children will receive their education in a school setting. However, there are some circumstances where children’s educational needs can only be met through Education Other than at School (EOTAS).
We are looking to recruit an experienced teacher who can work with our stakeholders to ensure that children in East Riding with an EHC plan who cannot access education in a school, receive the appropriate arrangement for education that they are entitled to. Working alongside the tuition coordinator and head of EOTAS, you will oversee the day-to-day education of this cohort of pupils.
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of the local authority’s responsibilities to provide Education Other than At School under section 19 and section 61 of the Education Act. This will include responsibility to ensure that a suitable education is delivered, participation in annual review of the EHC plan and actively identifying opportunities to remove barriers to allow children to reintegrate back into an education setting.
The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of the needs of children with SEND, with a proven track record as a teacher, supporting children with SEND. You will have a solid understanding of EHC plans and statutory guidance, in particular the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and Keeping Children Safe in Education (2024). You will be a resilient individual with excellent interpersonal skills, a natural problem solver who can bring people together in the best interests of the child.
Please note the post holder will need a driving licence to ensure they can travel around the county.
