We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Nurse to be part of the Mental Health Team in HMP Northumberland.
This is a Maternity cover post; however, there may be longer-term funding available to extend this post and make this permanent.
HMP Northumberland is a category C prison for male prisoners within NE and North Cumbria. You will be a core team member within the Mental Health Team, working within the establishment. Your clinical expertise and extensive knowledge will support the delivery of Mental Health provision including direct patient care.
You will have extensive experience of working within a prison or wider forensic services. You will have a positive and compassionate focused attitude towards service users within the prison environment. You will have an awareness of the clinical difficulties that arise for individuals within secure environments and be able to lead by example. The post requires the highest standards of professional practice and exceptional communication and relationship skills.
The post holder will work alongside a wider MDT made up of health and prison colleagues.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced Nurse who will thrive amongst the multi-disciplinary team of professionals to assess, plan and provide patient care.

Qualifications/Experience
Essential
* Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RMN / RNLD/ RGN (RNSC - CAMHS Only)
* Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving.
* Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving
* Postgraduate diploma in a subject relevant to the area or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years
* Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised qualification in a governed therapy/advanced clinical qualification e.g Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy/NMP (level 3 Independent Prescriber)
* And have equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD
* Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field.
* Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours.

* Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally
* Understanding and working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act
