Job Title: Airfield Training Officer
Core Purpose of the Role:
Reporting to the Airfield Training Manager, the Airfield Training Officer is primarily responsible for delivering airside training to internal and external stakeholders at Birmingham Airport. This includes regular delivery of all elements of BAL’s Airside Driving package in accordance with regulatory requirements. To ensure the highest training standards are maintained, the Airfield Training Officer will conduct regular audits of training delivery, monitoring its effectiveness both internally and externally. The role also involves working closely with the Airfield Training Administrator to manage and coordinate training demand.
This role requires an individual with a passion for developing the skills and knowledge of others and themselves. Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to a wide range of audiences and skill sets are key to success. Prior experience in the aviation industry and/or quality assurance is desirable but not essential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Deliver Airside Driving courses (Airside Roads and Aprons, Manoeuvring areas, Runway, and Radiotelephony) in accordance with CAP790 and Birmingham Airport procedures.
* Conduct airside induction tours for initial ADP ‘A’ candidates.
* Coordinate and deliver winter operations training, primarily SRICE (Snow Removal and Ice Control Equipment).
* Deliver Passenger Boarding Bridge (PBB), ‘Aviramp,’ and Aircraft Marshalling training.
* Conduct Airside Driver Improvement Training (ADIT) courses.
* Maintain accurate records and handle the administration of post-course paperwork and candidate records.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of training methodologies and syllabi.
* Coordinate and complete Third-Party training audits to ensure compliance with BAL requirements.
* Participate in safety oversight activities on apron operations, including driving safety, vehicles, Ground Service Equipment (GSE) safety, and ground handler oversight.
* Assist in the continuous development of the BAL Airfield Operations Maintenance of Competency Scheme, ensuring records are correctly maintained.
* Participate in airfield safety campaigns to promote safe working practices.
* Support the updating and review of relevant documents within the Aerodrome Safety Management System (SMS).
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
* L3 or above instructor (or equivalent) qualification.
* Ability to obtain a DVLA CAT D1 or CAT D license.
* Proven experience in training delivery using a range of recognized methods to achieve effective learning outcomes.
* Knowledge of different learner styles and associated limitations.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills to develop and guide team members effectively.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of the airside environment.
* Experience in undertaking quality assurance activities.
