The College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences is seeking to appoint a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Electrocardiology within the School of Health and Wellbeing and the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health.
You will make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the Schools through leading and contributing to research of international standard, high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and providing academic leadership and management within the Schools and College. In addition, you will actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach.
The successful candidate will contribute to clinical care and leading service developments commensurate with the clinical speciality under an NHS honorary contract at consultant level.
Job Purpose

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Academic
1. Lead the Electrocardiology Group in the College and be responsible for all aspects of management of the Group, becoming fully conversant with techniques for automated ECG interpretation.
2. Undertake a leading role in the development and implementation of individual and/or joint research projects of international standard, participating actively in the development of College and School research strategy.
3. Take a lead in major funding bids and related activities, including knowledge exchange, which develop and sustain recognised excellence for the University.
4. Support the Electrocardiology Group Clinical Trials Manager/Quality Systems Manager in maintaining ISO 9001-2015 registration.
5. Support the Electrocardiology Group software development team in advising on new concepts for automated ECG analysis.
6. Contribute to interactions with commercial companies wishing to use or already using the University software for automated ECG interpretation.
7. Review automated ECG reports obtained from any clinical trial in which the Electrocardiology Group is providing ECG interpretation.
8. Regularly attend and participate in appropriate activities to effectively contribute to the subject specialism.
9. Through an established network of external stakeholders, increasingly influence public understanding and/or professional policy and practice.
10. Undertake academic management and leadership roles and responsibilities.
11. Create and develop effective networks with students and staff across the University.
12. Develop a strategic approach to embedding learning technologies across the Subject/Schools and College.
13. Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment.
14. Supervise individual student projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
15. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Heads of Schools.
16. Contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile.
Clinical
1. Contribute to clinical service provision at the level of Honorary Consultant Cardiologist within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and NHS Golden Jubilee.
2. Ensure compliance with annual appraisal and GMC NHS revalidation.
Qualifications/ Knowledge
Essential:
1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [PhD or MD] or equivalent in related discipline.
2. Requisite clinical qualification and certification for clinical practice at Consultant level in Cardiology in the UK.
3. Current and continuing registration with the General Medical Council.
4. A thorough understanding of broader academic leadership and management.
5. Sustained engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
Desirable:
1. Membership of a relevant professional body.
2. Recognised excellence and reputation in subject area and scholarship of teaching.
Skills
Essential:
1. High quality clinical skills in the diagnosis and management of patients with heart disease.
2. Ability to undertake academic leadership.
3. Ability to forge new and effective relationships with colleagues.
4. Ability to demonstrate independent thought to generate original research.
Experience
Essential:
1. Experience in electrocardiography.
2. Engagement with current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies.
3. Substantial track record of published research.
Desirable:
1. Commercial expertise.
2. Experience of advanced ECG interpretative techniques.
3. Proven ability to plan and lead staff efficiently.
Terms and Conditions
An honorary consultant contract will be applied for from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, with an associated salary from £96,963 - £128,841 per annum. This post is full time and open ended.
