Job Profile:
Reporting to the Head of Operations Development, the SMR Operations Specialist’s will be critical members of the DevCo SMR Programme Team, providing an Operator lens into the design process from the outset, and working towards standing-up the Operator capability within the DevCo. Working as part of a team, the incumbent will drive the evaluation and design of the Operating Company Target Operating Model (OpCo TOM). This will consider the requirements for organisational structure, resource planning, systems and processes, and development pipeline.Further, the incumbent will support the review and acceptance of design deliverables (as part of the Owners Scope or from the Technology Partner), maintaining a robust viewpoint of the operations, maintenance, commissioning and decommissioning components of the design proposals.
Through insight into the Technology Provider’s (TP’s) design and site layout, the incumbent will work with the TP to develop operations and maintenance plans, which will in turn feed into the capability and training plans.
Together, you will form the Operator Capability Development Team, who will drive the development of the full Operator capability requirements for a Small Modular Reactor.
Whilst 10+ years from COD, this will be a fast-paced and exciting challenge. You will need to be comfortable with uncertainty, ambiguity and change.

Role Responsibilities
* Provide operator insight and advice to GBN and the DevCos on all nuclear operational and maintenance matters.
* Provide the capability to review and critique TP designs, ensuring that the proposed design solution can operate economically and can be controlled, operated and maintained safely and efficiently.
* Develop the operating principles, commissioning and maintenance programme strategies and plans.
* Support and promote the development of the DevCo nuclear safety culture in preparation for nuclear site licence application.
* Lead the development of the Operations/Commissioning/Pre-Operations capability within GBN and the DevCos.
* Support Head of Operations Development as main point of contact with external organisations including WANO, INPO, EPRI and European Utilities Requirements (EUR) Group.
* Support the Strategy function in evaluating long term Operator models.
* Supporting the GBN HR/L&D team to evaluate the optimal training solution for DevCo and support in the creation or procurement of this.
* Development of advanced decommissioning strategy, working with the Nuclear Liabilities Fund (or equivalent).
Experience
* Experience in a Nuclear Operations context, can include operations strategy development, main control room operations, fuel handling, outage planning, engineering programme, lifetime maintenance strategy and emergency preparedness.
* Robust experience of PWR/BWR technology (others will be considered).
* Experience in a Nuclear Pre-Ops or Commissioning context, can include hot and cold commissioning, factory and site acceptance testing and start-up testing and development of test strategies, plans and procedures.
* Excellent knowledge in the organisational requirements needed for a safe and effective Nuclear Power Plant Operator. Accomplished at establishing of operating principles, commissioning strategy, workforce management and processes and procedures.
* Knowledge of decommissioning beneficial.
* Experience acting as an intelligent customer/client or meeting the requirements of Site Licence Grant, Licence Conditions and associated Permit Conditions.
* Developing nuclear safety culture or high-performance culture in new or changing organisations. Credibility as a nuclear professional, with behaviours and competencies that support a strong nuclear safety culture.
Qualifications:
1. STEM degree or related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience
1. Project Management Professional (PMP), PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification.
2. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration (preferable).
