We have a new and interesting opportunity for a Senior Asset Strategy & Planning Manager to join our Asset Management team at National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED). In this role, you will be responsible for developing asset management strategies for NGED which will maximise whole life value from the extensive asset base operated now and into the future. You will lead a team of strategy specialists and analysts and own the Asset Management System (and framework) on behalf of NGED. Reporting into the Head of Asset Management you’ll play a pivotal role in the business and investment planning cycle by developing and maintaining asset class plans covering the whole asset lifecycle including capital delivery, inspection, maintenance, operation, and disposal. You’ll also influence all aspects of our operations and investments to deliver TotEx benefits and improved value. Taking account of current and future challenges, you’ll ensure our asset base meets the demands placed on it and delivers the outcomes the business and our customers seek. You will also lead the development of the corporate asset management capability within NGED which includes the ownership of the asset management improvement plan and assurance against internal and external standards. As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. We are flexible on base location and the role can be based from one of our offices/depots within the NGED licence areas of West Midlands, East Midlands, South West or Wales. Main Responsibilities Interpreting and translating organisational objectives to develop and own the strategic elements of the asset management system, including asset management objectives and strategy. Ownership of our asset management decision making frameworks. Providing guidance and support for decision making capabilities against the organisations value framework and maintaining alignment to the organisational outcomes we seek. Overseeing asset investment decision making governance on behalf of the business unit executive. Development and maintenance of asset management plans for each asset class, including fixed point and linear network assets. Translation of these into multi-year and annual investment and intervention programmes. Create and maintain systems and processes to realise value from our assets across their lifecycle. Coordinating asset plans to maximise the output from outages of network assets. Capability development and continuous improvement of the Asset Strategy & Planning Department. Including team management and organisation. Communication of strategy across the organisation Understanding and optimising approached to regulatory objectives and anticipating future regulatory developments. Provide subject matter expertise on both asset management principles and technical elements of electricity distribution network assets. Liaison with asset management professional and communities of practice across National Grid Group. The Ideal Candidate You’ll be educated to bachelor’s degree level or with equivalent professional experience gained in an asset intensive industry or regulated/regulatory environment. Chartered (or demonstrably working towards) status in Asset Management, Engineering, or a comparable profession is desirable. You’ll have an expert knowledge and understanding of regulated infrastructure businesses, developing strategies in an engineering or technical environment, and developing and delivering frameworks and processes at an enterprise scale. Project and programme management skills are also essential, together with analytical skills which you will be able to apply to complex multidisciplinary projects and programmes. Ideally you will have experience in asset management, particularly asset strategy, asset planning or similar function/field and experience of regulatory business planning, price review and/or regulatory reporting within a utility or infrastructure business. You will be a sound people manager with proven experience in managing and developing teams with planned succession. You’ll also be an accomplished influencer, who can build trust and consensus at all levels of the organisation.
