This is a temporary position as a Second Chef at a care home operated by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK's leading healthcare providers. The job involves working alongside the Head Chef to create nutritious and flavorful meals for the residents, while maintaining high standards of quality and hospitality.
Main duties of the job
As a Second Chef at Barchester, you will have the opportunity to work with fresh, seasonal ingredients and deliver restaurant-quality cuisine in a care home setting. You will assist the Head Chef in menu development, ensuring that the meals are tailored to the residents' preferences and dietary needs. The role also involves managing the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence, leading and motivating the team, and ensuring efficient stock control and budgeting.
Job responsibilities
Working as a bank Second Chef at Barchester, you will have the chance to deliver hotel/restaurant standards without the split shifts and long weeks. You will assist the Head Chef in creating nutritious, flavoursome and well-balanced menus whilst working with residents to tailor menus around them. NEED TO HAVE
* A personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents
* Hold City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent
* Experience in helping lead and inspire a team
* A good understanding of nutrition
* Experience of working with fresh seasonal food
* The ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within our home
* Good understanding of HACCP

Person Specification
You will need to hold a City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent qualification, as well as experience in a similar role, a good understanding of nutrition, and the ability to work with fresh, seasonal produce. A personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents is also essential.
