We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our team at Worcester Royal Hospital. We are looking for an experienced echocardiographer to join our expanding, friendly team. The role will include performing and reporting adult TTEs in a mixture of in-patient and out-patient settings including supporting the complex echo service with the DSE and TOE lists depending on experience. Duties will also include supporting head of department and service leads with developing services, supporting trainees, quality control and audits. Main duties of the job
1. To perform and report adult Echocardiograms.
2. To work alongside consultant Cardiologists performing TOE's, Stress echos and LVOs if suitably experienced, although training can be given.
3. To support junior members of staff, in accordance with the British Society of Echocardiography standards, guidelines and departmental protocols and policies.
4. Acting appropriately in the event of significant adverse findings, alerting physicians when immediate medical attention is required.
5. Responsibility to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation on patients in an emergency situation.
6. To perform a supervisory/lead role and provide technical support in Technician Led Cardiac Exercise Tolerance tests (ETT).
7. Without supervision, analyse and report the results of the procedure, in accordance with National and Departmental protocols and procedures.
8. To prepare, hook up to patients, remove, download and analyse the recordings, then report without supervision 24-hour ambulatory ECG recorders, Blood pressure recorders and Cardiac event recorders, according to the departmental procedure and protocol.
9. May be required to work in the invasive Cardiac Catheter Laboratory service, performing unsupervised monitoring of invasive intra-cardiac pressures, ECG intracoronary imaging on clinically high-risk cardiac patients. Alerting Physician immediately of any changes in parameters.

Job responsibilities
1. To work as an independent practitioner of the Cardiology team.
2. To be BSE accredited to be able to perform and report own echocardiograms and to amend and validate junior physiologists echocardiogram reports.
3. To participate in the development of the complex echocardiography service (DSE and TOE).
4. To be fully competent and responsible for performing a wide range of complex and highly specialised non-invasive investigations, including analysis, reporting and clinical interpretation of results for their own patient workload and that of junior members of staff including verifications of written reports from junior members of staff.
5. To provide high technical expertise, supervision, support and training to technical and medical staff.
6. To produce technically satisfactory results in accordance with national and departmental standards.
7. To communicate complex instructions and clinical information effectively to all categories of patients, ensuring co-operation and compliance to obtain accurate technical and clinical data.
8. To analyse clinical information and clinical conditions during procedures, whereby judgement is required to determine the appropriate course of action.
9. To visually and verbally risk-assess every patient prior to carrying out any clinical investigations.
10. To ensure patients are monitored appropriately during investigations and ensuring swift and appropriate action is taken to minimise life threatening or significant medical events.
11. To initiate Basic Life Support and Immediate Life Support when required.
12. To ensure safe use of specialist/expensive equipment used by self and others.
13. To report all untoward events or uncertainties to the Head of Department.
14. To work at all times in a safe and responsible manner.
15. To plan and prioritise personal workloads according to daily staffing levels.
16. To advise junior medical staff on the availability, selection and appropriateness of test procedures.
Person Specification
Experience
* Significant experience as a specialised Cardiac Physiologist and advanced knowledge of Echocardiography.
* Supervision of staff.
* Assist with the day-to-day running of the department.
* Teaching and development of staff.
Qualifications
* Degree in Clinical Physiology or equivalent.
* British Society of Echocardiography accreditation (BSE) or equivalent.
* ILS, ALS.
* A1 Assessors award.
* Registration for RCCP.
* ASCST (parts 1 & 2) or equivalent.
