Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have previous experience and will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Nurse, whilst adhering to specific practice guidelines and protocols. The role is to assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of care of our patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening, and patient education. The post will also include some clinical administrative duties.
About us
Tower House Surgery is a one site surgery and looks after approximately 14500 patients in and around the Ryde area. The team comprises of 7 GP partners and 2 salaried GPs, 6 advanced practitioners, 8 practice nurses, 2 phlebotomists and 3 HCAs. We also have two managers and a team of 40 staff. Along with our own staff we work closely with our local Social Prescribers, Care Co-ordinators, Physiotherapists and Health and Wellbeing Coaches.
We are an established training practice for both F2s and GP Registrars and support a number of our staff to study for formal qualifications. Our CQC rating is good in all areas. QOF achievement is consistently good and patient surveys have been extremely positive.
Tower House is currently the lead practice in the NE PCN which it belongs to along with 5 other local surgeries. These surgeries work together on a number of projects to deliver healthcare services to the NE of the Isle of Wight.
Job responsibilities
* Undertake NHS health checks
* Carry out ECGs as requested
* Carry out Dopplers
* Support the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes
* Act as a Chaperone as required
* Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
* Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
* Undertake wound care, dressings, suture removal as required
* Venepuncture
* Drug injections including B12's, Pneumococcal, Shingles, Flu
* Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
* Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
* Support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
* Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with guidance
* Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharp bins replaced in accordance with the organisation's IPC policy
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
* Be prepared to do Home Visits
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience.
* Completion of the HCA Care Certificate
Experience
* Experience of working with the general public.
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
* Experience of working in primary care
