Fast-track your electrical engineering career with our 2-year Accelerated Degree Apprenticeship. This unique opportunity blends structured academic study with hands-on industry experience, leading to a full BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering and a rewarding career in the nuclear industry.
Through this fast-tracked programme, you will:
* Develop expertise in electrical engineering, including the creation of drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules, and technical reports.
* Produce technical documentation to support the design and development of nuclear engineering solutions.
* Evaluate designs for potential risks and hazards, focusing on nuclear and radiological safety.
* Contribute to projects across the entire design and engineering lifecycle, from early concept development to detailed design and manufacturing preparation.
* Gain hands-on experience with industry-leading design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks for 3D designs and visualisation.
* Receive expert training in Electrical Safety and BS7671 (IET Electrical Wiring Regulations).
* Enhance your nuclear industry knowledge through specialised training from the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN).
Your work will be integral to vital projects advancing the UK's nuclear clean-up efforts. This includes decommissioning outdated facilities to safeguard the environment and refurbishing laboratories and nuclear waste plants to ensure safety and efficiency.
Your education/training
You'll study to obtain the Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer (integrated degree) apprenticeship standard. On completion of the apprenticeship, you will hold a BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering.
Future prospects
At the end of the programme, you will have acquired the skills and experience to move into an Engineering role, with a competitive annual salary of c.£41,837. We'll also support you in achieving professional registration through the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
What you'll need
To be eligible for this accelerated apprenticeship, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
One of the following:
* Level 5 Diploma in Electrical Engineering or
* Level 5 Nuclear Technician Apprenticeship
Additionally, you must have:
* At least 2 A-Levels (A-C) in STEM-related subjects, or
* An Engineering T-Level (with Engineering in the title) at Merit or above, or
* An Extended Diploma in Engineering (BTEC) at Merit or above. (If you already meet the A-Level requirement, a standard BTEC is acceptable.)
* A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics at B/6 or higher.
Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.
