We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Birmingham to assist with the appointment of a Senior Practitioner, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Rate of Pay: £24.27 - £31.80 per Hour Summary: The Senior Practitioner will play a pivotal role in improving the quality of social work practice across the casework cycle, providing expert guidance and technical support to social workers. The role requires managing a complex caseload, mentoring junior colleagues, and ensuring that high-quality service is delivered to children, young people, and their families. Responsibilities: Case Management & Professional Support: Provide a needs-led, professional social work service that complies with legislative requirements and best practice. Manage an allocated caseload, including complex cases, while supporting junior social workers with technical expertise and mentoring. Legislative Compliance & Policy Implementation: Ensure a thorough understanding and application of relevant legislation, national standards, departmental policies, and procedures. Communicate best practices to colleagues and contribute to quality assurance processes. Partnership & Multi-Agency Collaboration: Promote effective partnership working with service users, other teams, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to child welfare and protection. Training & Development: Actively participate in training and development activities, offering coaching and mentoring to less experienced staff. Provide expert guidance to improve professional practice across the service. Performance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with statutory and organisational performance management requirements by collecting and reporting relevant performance data. Qualifications: Degree in Social Work (or equivalent). Registered with Social Work England. Additional specialist training in child protection, safeguarding, or complex case management (desirable). Essential: Significant experience in childrens social care, safeguarding, or family services. Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, national standards, and best practices. Experience in mentoring and supporting social workers. Proven ability to manage complex caseloads. Please note: You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
