80747 - Trainee Project Manager
This Trainee Project Manager will report to the Client Delivery Manager and will work within UK Power Networks Services based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £47,025 plus car and a bonus of 3%. This role does not offer blended working as it is a training position.

Job Purpose:
The role of the Trainee Project Manager is to support the Project Managers and Program Managers in the delivery of the Project Management Office portfolio of works. You will help deliver work packages within a single project, across several projects or deliver in totality smaller value projects across the UKPN Services footprint.
You will work through a career pathway to learn both general project management skills and to understand the requirements relating to the delivery of projects. This will include a structured development plan with both formal and on-the-job training requirements.
Completion of specified learning and experience as a Trainee Project Manager will qualify you to proceed to the role of Assistant Project Manager. Progression will to Assistant Project Manager be at the discretion of the Client Delivery Manager following periodic assessments.
The two phases of development represent:
10. Initial familiarisation and learning with no autonomous responsibilities for project delivery;
11. Phased introduction to managing with sole responsibility for defined contract, sub-packages or small projects.
Principal Accountabilities:
12. Provide regular inputs, updates, and participation in Directorate and Local SHEWQT reviews and Local HESECs. Gain knowledge of Incident Investigation and Site Audit/Inspection regime.
13. Help deliver plans and gain an understanding of the direct and indirect contract resources, materials, and services to ensure that project programmes are maintained within time, cost and quality parameters.
14. Provide support to the Project / Programme Manager in the monthly reporting of Projects.
15. Lead on and facilitate interdisciplinary meetings with internal functions and supply chain on specific work packages or projects
16. Help produce Project Execution Plans (PEPs), Project Quality Plans (PQPs) and Contractual Documents.
17. Understand and help prepare monthly reports, including achievement, costs, forecasts, and any other requests by the Project / Portfolio Manager
18. Demonstrate a clear understanding in how Investment Delivery provides high levels of Customer Service to our partners, to promote a positive company image and minimise the likelihood of complaints.
19. Help manage project risks and opportunities, using the procedures, process guidance approved by the PMO.
20. Work with the Project Manager and the supply chain to ensure important project milestone and our goals are achieved.
21. Help produce lessons learned register and communicate lessons learned to team and the wider business.
Nature and Scope:
22. Gain an understanding of relevant statutory and company environmental, Health, Safety, sustainability and quality standards, Regulations and Approved Codes of Practice requirements.
23. Understand all aspects of project delivery including quality, cost, budget, governance, health, safety, welfare, quality, and sustainability. Help with project management responsibilities to support the Project / Programme Manager in delivering large and high-profile projects, managing several contracts and partners.
24. Develop the technical competencies required for construction and understand how quality assurance is implemented and audited for compliance across projects.
25. Develop a clear understanding of contracts and commercial arrangements used to ensure works are completed and costs controlled and develop a clear understanding of the associated commercial processes.
26. Gain knowledge on how to identify project risks, develop risk mitigation plans and there implementation during the life cycle of a project.
27. Understand the interaction with important partners to align with the Company Vision to be a "Respected Corporate Citizen."
28. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the internal delivery process and associated governance, including interaction with the PMO, Procurement and Commercial teams to gain a broader understanding.
29. Understand the governance process and budgeting for projects. To include a placement with the Commercial team and engagement with PMO and Procurement teams.
30. Gain knowledge of the importance of Engagement and how this supports the Vision of the business.
31. Practically demonstrate knowledge of the project management discipline.
32. Practically demonstrate knowledge of excellent internal and external stakeholder management.
Qualifications:
33. Exposure/ practical experience of LV/HV or EHV electrical distribution network (Transmission/DNO/ Private Networks) is desirable.
34. Understanding of NRSWA / Street Works is desirable
35. Electrical Engineering to HNC is desirable but applications from candidates with a lesser qualification and a strong record of accomplishment in the installation of electrical distribution infrastructures OR construction would be welcomed.
36. Work towards a membership of a professional institute IEE, ICE or APM or equivalent (or can demonstrate progress towards said membership)
37. Safety Management CSCS / IOSH preferred but not essential.
38. Work experience in a project delivery capacity
39. A good understanding and use of Microsoft Office packages Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
40. You will achieve any project related Security Clearance.
41. Full UK driving licence.
