Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint General Radiologists (Consultant Radiologists / Specialty Doctors) with a special interest in Breast Radiology, Uroradiology, Thoracic Radiology, Neuroradiology, or Paediatric Radiology. Candidates will be considered for a fixed term or substantive post.
We are one of the country's top performing NHS Foundation Trusts, looking after the wellbeing of around half a million people across Northumberland and North Tyneside - one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in England. Recent CQC inspection rated Northumbria Healthcare Trust as outstanding overall.
Please note we reserve the right to close this vacancy prior to the closing date once the required number of suitable applications have been received.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be joining a team of 17 whole time equivalent Consultants who provide radiological services to our patients supported by 8 whole time specialty Registrars. This is further supported by reporting radiographers and sonographers.
The on-call commitment is currently 1 in 18 for weekday evenings across the trust and one in every 9 weekends. (Weekends usually split between 2 consultants). Overnight between 8.00pm and 8.00am will be directly referred to a Teleradiology company, with the local consultant being second on call.
About us
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do, and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.
Job responsibilities
We are seeking excellent Clinicians who thrive in the busy environment of a Radiology Department, providing our consultant of session which allows other clinical specialists direct contact with a radiologist.
Radiology at the Trust
We have plain film, CT, and MRI (provided by InHealth) at our 4 main sites, The Northumbria specialist hospital and the 3 General hospitals, plus smaller radiology at community sites to support the minor injury units.
The Trust has an active Teaching role, and the post holder would be expected to have a modest role in the education of medical students and doctors in training.
We have a Research and Development department, and research and clinical audit is encouraged within the radiology department working with other specialties to explore new technologies and patient care linking with radiology.
