Specialty Doctor in Older Persons Mental Health

CTMUHB are seeking a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to join the Bridgend North Team covering the care of Older Adults under the direction of the two sector consultants. This post holder will join the existing Older Adults Psychiatry team covering Bridgend County Borough. The Specialty Doctor post is part of the established Older Adults Psychiatry Team providing psychiatric care to community and patients admitted to Angelton Clinic. The responsibilities include provision of clinical input into Mental Health Services for Older Adults in inpatient and community settings under the direction of the Consultants.
The post holder will become an integral member of the Older Adults Psychiatry Team, providing medical input for older adults with mental health needs across inpatient and community care settings.
The community teams are based in 71 Quarella Road and inpatient provision is provided from Angelton Clinic on the Glanrhyd Hospital site. The hospital and Care Home In-reach Team is based in the Princess of Wales Hospital.

Main duties of the job
1. Day-to-day assessment, diagnosis, formulation of management plans, and review of patients.
2. Management of patients with mental health needs in community and inpatient settings in the Bridgend locality under direction of the sector consultants.
3. Managing patients in outpatient clinics and the monthly Lithium clinic.
4. Management of patients under the primary and secondary category of the Mental Health Measure, supporting Liaison psychiatric input in the Princess of Wales Hospital, including patients in respite care.
5. Clinical input to CMHT and Memory Services team.
6. Support the Consultant and assume responsibility for the medical management of the ward in his/her absence, with support from an established rota of locality Consultants.
7. Liaise and communicate effectively with members of the team, other teams and services within the Directorate, other Hospital departments and with external agencies (including but not restricted to, General Practitioners, Social Services, Police and probation service) by whatever means possible.
8. Subject to S12(2) approval, implementation of the Mental Health Act and associated duties.
9. Prepare psychiatric reports, including Tribunal reports, Managers hearing reports, Capacity reports, Coroner reports, and attend Hearings when requested to do so.
10. Participate and contribute to ward rounds and team meetings including MDT meetings.
11. Joint MDT working with the established CMHT and Inpatient teams.
12. Liaising and collaboration with colleagues from other specialties and organisations, when dealing with a wide range of needs e.g. palliative care team, medical and surgical specialties, Liaison psychiatric team, Local Authority partners and the third sector.
13. Support the team with routine administrative duties.
14. Provide appropriate day-to-day supervision of junior medical staff with Consultant support.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* M.B.B.S. or equivalent
* S.12(2) approval
* Welsh Approved Clinician approval
Experience
* Comprehensive training and experience in psychiatry.
* Three years experience at CT level in adult psychiatry.
* Familiarity with UK hospital systems and practice.
* Experience of acting as s12(2) doctor or Responsible Clinician.
Skills
* Able to undertake duties to Specialty Doctor level.
* Competence in current assessment and treatment.
* Competence in risk assessment and management.
* Understanding of relevant clinical, legal and policy issues.
Audit and Research
* Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance.
* Evidence of audit with significant impact on practice.
* Evidence of original and relevant research in specialty.
Teaching
* Evidence of having delivered postgraduate teaching.
* Evidence of having delivered multi-disciplinary teaching.
