Long-term position
NVQ Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification or a degree in Psychology or Special Educational Needs would be ideal but not essential.
Team Teach or similar restraint training is an advantage but not essentialMy client schools - primary and secondary - provide excellent educational facilities for pupils who have been excluded or are close to being excluded from mainstream schools. The schools are keen to meet caring, committed and enthusiastic teaching assistants who are interested in supporting pupils with special needs or those with social, emotional and mental health issues.
The school would love to meet any Teaching Assistants that have practical and theoretical knowledge of SEND, especially those with an interest in SEMH needs. They are looking for the recruited teaching assistant to work on a full-time basis (but also day-to-day) in order that they establish a good working bond with the pupil they support.
If you’re a psychology graduate looking to gain a few years’ experience en-route to becoming an Educational Psychologist this could be the perfect school for you.
Please note that this position is dealing with challenging pupils who can be disengaged with education, disruptive and defiant. Because of this the schools require support staff that are resilient, calm and can form strong positive relationships with their pupils. And whilst this position isn't for everyone it can be an extremely rewarding job for those looking to make a genuine difference.
