About First Steps ED
First Steps ED is a leading eating disorder charity working across the Midlands and Home Counties supporting individuals and their families of all ages, genders and backgrounds impacted by body image, disordered eating and disorders.
FSED directly support around 125 people affected by eating disorders each month which includes sufferers, carers, and professionals through 300 psychoeducational weekly support groups and 9,000 one-to-one therapeutic sessions annually, and train over 1,000 professionals.
FSED are experts by experience, a quality-assured, research-based Charitable Incorporated Organisation (1185092), and a leading light working as an integrated partner in the health and education environments.
Job Description
Purpose of the role
* To ensure that First Steps is recognised nationally as the leading eating disorder charity.
* Lead and inspire First Steps ED (FSED) staff, volunteers and partners to deliver our vision for transforming communities and direct delivery services.
* Represent FSED externally to a diverse range of people across sectors including in the NHS, voluntary sector, research and private sector, and funders.
* Ensure FSED continues to develop into a high performing and sustainable charitable organisation.
* Drive new business development building relationships with partners and commissioners and exploring contract and income opportunities.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Strategy
* Enhance and develop FSED longer term strategy.
* Collaborate with partners to recognise areas of growing service need.
* Execute on FSED’s objectives and strategy while having regard for responsibilities to key stakeholders.
* Regularly review the operational performance and strategic direction of FSED.
* Recommend to the board of trustees an annual budget and strategic financial plan.
* Ensure financial management and corporate governance systems are in place.
* Regularly review the FSED organisational structure and recommend changes as appropriate.
* Maintain intelligence of the changing local and national communities.
* Regularly review the Communications, Education and Information strategies.
Service Delivery and Key Relationship Management
* Develop good relationships with Trustee Board.
* Lead the First-Steps team recognizing individual strengths and weaknesses.
* Work collaboratively with key stakeholders at the highest level.
* Build effective relationships with wider community partners.
* Stakeholder engagement and consultation in the development of new initiatives.
* Utilize our volunteer network to expand provision.
* Present at events representing FSED.
* Deliver a digital strategy and suite of digital solutions.
Leadership
* Provide vision, direction and leadership in enabling FSED to achieve its strategic goals.
* Manage and develop the team in the fulfilment of their duties.
* Lead on living the FSED values and winning behaviours.
Compliance
* Ensuring that all statutory and contracting requirements are met.
* Have the appropriate policies and procedures in place.
* Ensure effective governance working with the Chair and board of trustees.

The successful candidate will have all or most of the following skills and abilities:
* Excellent and versatile communication skills.
* Effective influencing and negotiating skills.
* Highly developed and adaptable presentation skills.
* Able to design, develop and execute strategy.
* Ability to lead in a complex environment.
* The determination to achieve excellence and to challenge poor performance.
Qualifications and knowledge
* In depth knowledge of the healthcare, local government and voluntary sector.
* Minimum of 10 years’ experience of senior leadership.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* Experience in public relations.
