An exciting opportunity has become available for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the East and North Herts Child and Adolescent Mental Health Community Services within Hoddesdon and our satellite clinic in Bishop Stortford in Hertfordshire.
This post is a fixed term locum post as a job share with another consultant who is on a part time basis.
The Hoddesdon and Bishops Stortford CAMHS Clinics are part of the East Herts Quadrant for Community CAMHS Clinics of which the teams work alongside colleagues in Welwyn Garden City clinics to form the East Herts quadrant.
The successful applicant will work alongside 2 substantive consultants and 3 specialty doctors and a multidisciplinary team consisting of family therapists, psychotherapists, psychologists, social worker, CAMHS practitioners and clinical nurse specialist in the East CAMHS Team.
It is a busy team covering 3 sites, and the team works on an outpatient model and currently receives approximately 60-70 referrals per month. The caseload for this post is estimated to be 50-70.
Main duties of the job
1. To work closely with the multidisciplinary team and other agencies in health and social care as appropriate.
2. To have responsibility for assessing a young person’s mental state, formulating a diagnosis, advising on treatment and monitoring the risks a young person poses, alongside the MDT.
3. To undertake referral meetings, case reviews as required.
4. To provide opportunities for case based discussion and teaching to the MDT.
5. To write letters and communications to General Medical practitioners and other professionals as required.
6. To participate in various medical staff meetings within the Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as necessary.
7. To perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances in consultation with senior and junior colleagues.
8. To provide cross-cover for the other consultants as may be needed.
9. To participate in regular Audit and Quality Assurance programmes to improve and maintain the high standard of service.
Working for our organisation
In 12 years, the Trust has been successful in acquiring the tender for the provision of specialist Learning disability services in Norfolk, North Essex and Buckinghamshire. The Trust covers a mix of rural and urban areas, including the City of St Albans, the large towns of Watford, Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage, and the smaller towns of Hemel Hempstead, Radlett, Berkhamsted, Harpenden, Hertford, Ware, Bishops Stortford, Hitchin and Letchworth.
Hertfordshire Social Services have divided the county into four areas. The county has three Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs). West Hertfordshire is served by Herts Valleys CCG and Dacorum and East and North Hertfordshire is served by East and North Herts CCG.
The Trust collaborates closely with Hertfordshire County Council and other NHS organisations to promote and support mental health in the community.

1. To assess and diagnose mental health conditions in children and adolescents.
2. To provide treatment recommendations and monitor patient progress.
3. To collaborate with other healthcare professionals and agencies.
4. To engage in teaching and supervision of junior staff.
5. To participate in quality assurance and audit activities.
Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS
1. MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
2. MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
3. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
4. Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications.
ELIGIBILITY
1. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
2. CCT in Psychiatry; OR Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry; OR within six months of achieving CCT/CESR at the time of interview.
3. In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
4. Section 12/Approved clinician approval.
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
1. Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in Child & Adolescent psychiatry.
2. Experience of close collaborative working with social care and other agencies.
3. Experience of working with service users who have complex needs within Child & Adolescent psychiatry.
4. Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
6. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
7. Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.
8. Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
9. Excellent degree of medical knowledge in relation to psychiatry.
ACADEMIC SKILLS LIFELONG LEARNING
1. Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
2. Participated in continuous professional development.
3. Participated in research or service evaluation.
4. Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
5. Has actively participated in clinical audit.
6. Holds a full valid driving license and access to a car (Unless you have a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995).
7. Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post.
8. Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken.
9. Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
10. Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
11. Has led clinical audits leading to service change.
12. Experience of organising and overseeing psychotherapy training program for psychiatry trainees.
