An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative Senior Biomedical Scientist within LCL Clinical Biochemistry.
The successful applicant will be educated to MSc level or equivalent and have demonstrable post registration experience in Clinical Biochemistry.
The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent leadership skills and have experience of maintaining UKAS ISO15189 standards.
The duties of the post will include the supervision of an area of Clinical
Chemistry. In conjunction with other senior staff you will cover all aspects of
service provision, method development, coordination of BMS and support staff to ensure that a quality service is maintained and delivered.
The successful candidate should be able to and willing to work across sites in LCL Clinical Chemistry: BGH, AUH and RLUH.

To assess the suitability and appropriateness of samples submitted to the laboratory and to take remedial action when required.
To analyse specimens for screening, diagnostic and clinical management of patients using complex, specialised and very expensive equipment.
To interpret technical validity of results, which may be anomalous, incomplete, complex or conflicting, using professional knowledge and experience.
To make technical assessments of method and instrument performance by monitoring quality control used on specialist laboratory methods and analytical systems.
To troubleshoot, repair and carry out maintenance on specialist equipment
To make fine adjustments to analytical systems to ensure specialist equipment is kept in optimal operational condition.
To resolve problems relating to breakdown/unavailability of analytical systems
To implement alternative analytical methods and strategies in the event of technical failure.
To initiate regular reviews of outstanding work to ensure satisfactory/timely completion and validation of the work of the section.
To ensure correct technical validation of results to allow Clinical Scientists and/or Medical Staff to provide appropriate medical intervention.
To participate in the creation, review and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.
When requested, participate in the review and implementation of Departmental Policies.
Ensure that support staff, trainee Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Clinical Scientists and Medical staff working in the section are suitably trained.
Participate in the development and evaluation of new techniques, methodologies and equipment.
To take a regular and active tole in analysing samples for research and clinical trials.
