The core responsibilities of a Nursing Associate will cover clinical duties within the Practice working under the supervision of the Nursing team. The actual duties of the post holder will be negotiated with the relevant practices depending on the practices needs, contractual obligations and the Nursing Associates knowledge, expertise, and experience. The post holder will ensure health promotion and support the admin team in signposting for patient self-care.
Main duties of the job
1. Monitor and support the Lead Nurse with the management of patients with long-term conditions and chronic diseases, using a holistic patient centred approach.
2. Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs.
3. Be able to take vital signs and observations and identify signs of improvement or regress, report any deteriorations or concerns, e.g. pulse, blood pressure, respirations, oxygen saturations, peak flow, blood glucose levels, ECG, assessing nutrition and hydration.
4. Assist & support GP with Minor surgery.
5. Undertake Pathology tests.
6. Undertake wound care and management thereof including Compression system regimens.
7. Administer medications as prescribed and in accordance with NMC Standards, under Patient Specific Directions.
8. Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate, assist in the assessment of health promotion.
9. Document consultations accurately and appropriately, according to NMC guidelines.
10. Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical adult and children safeguarding protection procedures.
11. To complete all mandatory training including CPR, Infection control, and Chaperone.
12. Ensure confidentiality of information gained at work is preserved at all times.
13. Assist in practice audits, CQC compliance evidence and QOF recalls.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register.
* GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent.
* Commitment to Continued Professional Development through further study.
* Post registration qualification e.g. cytology, childhood immunisation and vaccination training.
* Qualified in Phlebotomy.
Experience
* Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.
* Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.
* Candidates must have experience of Core Duties as listed with specific emphasis towards assisting and supporting GP with Minor surgery.
* Experience of the SystmOne Primary Care Clinical system.
* Experience of Primary Care/GP Practice.

* Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development.
