Role Summary
You will be joining as part of the research and development team, working on the photoluminescent product ranges. Your role will be varied, focusing on supporting the complete design and development cycle for new products as well as ongoing maintenance and upgrade (CPD) of existing designs, providing support across the business and to our customers.
STG’s Design Engineers are developed to have complete ownership of projects. This covers all areas, giving you the opportunity to influence not only the product’s design but the complete design process from initial client liaison, concepts, product engineering, DFM to after sales and marketing support.
About the Role
Undertaking Research and Development project work to support the delivery of the Strategic Plan on a Page, including:
1. Creating new and updating existing technical drawings for photoluminescent products using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Adobe Illustrator.
2. Working on CAD (Solidworks) models for an ongoing development project; working with top Aerospace companies.
3. Creating rapid prototypes using 3D printers to validate designs and demo to relevant stakeholders.
4. Supporting the team to communicate new ideas both internally and externally using Adobe Creative Suite and PowerPoint.
5. Participating in design workshops to ideate new product features and USPs.
6. Fitness for purpose testing of proposed designs.
7. Meeting with Production and suppliers to support ongoing DFM.
8. Supporting the R&D team in defining and delivering competitive, validated designs and technical solutions that satisfy the project goal against the defined requirements whilst maintaining creativity.
9. Working to ensure all project deliverables meet their quality, design budget, and delivery targets. Following configuration management processes and New Product Introduction procedures and best practices.
About You
* A degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience in an appropriate field.
* Experience in idea generation, 3D modelling– preferably Solidworks/AutoCAD trained.
* Experience of working to tight timescales, to meet key exacting deadlines.
* Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities and to work under pressure.
* Effective communicator, being able to liaise with a range of third parties including customers and suppliers with confidence, presenting ideas clearly and concisely.
* Experience tackling problems by using a collaborative, logical, systematic, sequential approach.
* Self-motivated, enthusiastic, eager to adapt to new challenges and learn quickly.
* Experience of rapid prototyping.
* Experience in design for regulated environments.
* Good understanding of design for service life requirements.
* Knowledge of production processes and materials.

Role Location
The role will be primarily based on site in the Innovation & Engineering Centre, located in Cwmbran, South Wales. This is easily commutable from Cardiff and Bristol. Use of a car is essential due to location although some home working is possible. Some UK and foreign travel will be required to support aspects of the business.
