We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester. Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. It's all open plan, with a living green wall and other plants without set desks, so you can sit next to someone new every day. We're always looking to improve how we work and we offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work-life balance.
About the role
Come and work for a rewarding organisation, joining our Enviro-crime Team to enforce the environment, by way of issuing on-the-spot fixed penalty notices for any offences of littering, dog fouling, fly-tipping, and other offences witnessed. The purpose of the role is to reduce the amount of public money that goes into clearing up waste and improve the quality of life for all residents of the City. You will use a range of technology to support the role, identify the perpetrators of offences, and ensure that processes are followed so that successful prosecutions are achieved if the case proceeds to court.
What we need from you
You will need to demonstrate strong observational and communication skills, with the ability to enforce environmental laws professionally and confidently. You should be assertive yet approachable, capable of handling potentially confrontational situations with diplomacy. Attention to detail is essential for accurately identifying offences and following legal procedures. The role requires proficiency in using technology to gather evidence and process penalty notices. Candidates must also show a commitment to environmental protection and public service, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A good understanding of relevant legislation and enforcement procedures is highly desirable.
