Environmental enforcement is an essential part of keeping the Royal Borough of Greenwich clean and safe. We're looking for experienced enviro crime enforcement professional to tackle high priority waste crime such as flytipping, trade waste nuisance, untidy land and illegal disposal or management of waste by using a wide suite of environmental legislation. In addition, you will be responsible for dealing with abandoned motor vehicles both on public and private land, including motor vehicles surrendered by their keepers and dealing with untaxed vehicles in accordance with legislation. You will be involved in complex investigations and help construct case files. You will also be expected to blend this with crime prevention and disrupting the activities of offenders and provide specialist enforcement support and advice to internal and external colleagues. You will have a proven track record as an enforcement officer with skills and experience in evidence gathering and formal enforcement actions. You will be able to produce high quality reports and responses, witness statements and present evidence in Court. You will possess knowledge and understanding of the national policies, legislation around all aspects of waste enforcement As a Enviro Crime Investigations Officer, you will be : - Leading on Enviro Crime investigations Seizing vehicles involved in waste crime Deploying mobile CCTV cameras Collect and record evidence to support the investigation Issuing a variety of legal statutory notices. Interacting directly with offenders and issue Fixed Penalty Notices for authorised offences in accordance with legislation, ensuring that the evidential and public interest tests have been met Attending court as a professional witness Using scene examination skills and techniques including photography in the identification Significant experience of relevant legislation including Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act, Police and Criminal Evidence Act, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and Data Protection Act. Ability to conduct advance witness and suspect interviews Lead or participate in joint operations with the Met Police and other partners The role is challenging and varied, and we are looking for candidates who are committed to improving the environment with experience of working in an enforcement setting with the community and working with a range of partners and organisations. The role will also sometimes involves working early mornings / evenings and some weekends. The post requires a full UK driving licence. Recent training on PACE, CPIA and dealing with hostile situations would be an advantage An understanding of environmental legislation would also be an advantage.
