Job overview
We are looking for a Trust Doctor (ST4+ equivalent) to join our Paediatrics team at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester for a fixed term 6 months post from March 2025.
This is a full-time role including participation in a full shift rota system. Requests for less than full time working will be considered.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team of 7 whole time equivalent tier 2 doctors to provide a full shift rota covering acute paediatrics and our level 2 Neonatal unit.
Candidates must have completed foundation training (or equivalent) and have a minimum of 2 further years of Paediatric experience including 6 months in a tertiary neonatal unit. Full MRCPCH should be held or be close to being held.
Candidates must have full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.
Candidates will be expected to work together as a team within the Women and Children's Group.
Main duties of the job
As a tier 2 Doctor in Paediatrics & Neonatology at St Richards, the post holder is responsible for the following:
1. Managing children admitted to the Paediatric ward under supervision of a Consultant.
2. Clinical assessment and management of children and young people referred to the Paediatric Assessment unit and providing support and advice to A&E doctors and General Practitioners.
3. Attending resuscitation calls in A&E.
4. Supervising and supporting Tier 1 doctors in patient care in the children's ward and assessment unit.
5. Managing babies on the level 1 Neonatal unit under supervision of a consultant.
6. Supervision and supporting Tier 1 doctors in patient care for babies on the neonatal unit, maternity unit and postnatal ward.
7. Attending high-risk deliveries on the maternity unit.
8. Support and teaching of junior medical, nursing staff and medical students.
9. Engaging in Continuing Professional Development and Audit as appropriate.
10. Engaging with the Trust's appraisal and revalidation process.
11. Deputising for absent colleagues when consistent with the proper discharge of duties.
12. Performing additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
13. Being available for irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties essential for continuity of patient care.

Experience/ Qualifications
* Success in MRCPCH Part I or appropriate specialist qualification
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
* Success at MRCPH Part II
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement. Potential to develop excellent diagnostic skills
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice.
* Achievement of competences outlined in the Paediatric Curriculum for Level 2 training by the time of application
* Successful completion of APLS and NLS or equivalent
* Successful completion of Safeguarding children: Recognition & response in Child Protection or equivalent
* Shows aptitude for practical skills, e.g. hand-eye co-ordination, dexterity

* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
