Apprentices will complete a program of theoretical and practical learning. On completion of the broad-based training, individuals will work with experienced maintenance engineers at site tackling “real life” activities specifically studying in one core discipline which will be Mechanical Engineering. Typical working hours will be 37.5 hours per week and once onsite a willingness to work shift work on completion of the apprenticeship is essential.

You will complete a full year of foundation training at Waterside Training Ltd, covering Mechanical practical training as well as other courses that will support your learning and develop your engineering skills.
In Mechanical you will cover:
* Hand Tools
* Lathes
* Milling Machines
* CNC Machines
* CAD + More
You will also be cross-trained in many other courses such as risk assessment, health & safety, abrasive wheels, welding, gears & motors plus other courses as advised by Waterside Training Ltd.
From your 2nd year onwards, you will be based at site to learn your job role and complete full onsite training with day release to college to complete your qualifications.
Entry Requirements
English, Maths and Science at a Grade 4/C or above (Mandatory)

Training to be Provided
You will receive a full year of broad-based training across Mechanical Engineering as well as many other training courses that will support your learning and development.
From Year 2 onwards you will continue your training on site at Essity covering:
* Position, assemble, install and dismantle mechanical plant and equipment to agreed specifications
* Carry out planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance procedures on mechanical plant and equipment
* Replace, repair and/or remove components in mechanical plant and equipment and ensure its return to operational condition.
* Diagnose and determine the cause of faults in mechanical plant and equipment
Plus any other duties that are required within your job role.
Things to Consider
You must be able to travel to Waterside Training Ltd (St Helens) and take into consideration that you will also need to travel to your Employer's site Essity (Skelmersdale).
Future Prospects
The successful candidate will become a fully qualified Mechanical Engineer with Level 3 City & Guilds Engineering Diploma and the possibility of further education and permanent employment.
