Job overview: As the DevOps Manager your primary responsibility will be to manage DevOps operations, cloud infrastructure, and ensure efficient deployment workflows. Your mission is to establish a robust DevOps culture, ensure high availability, optimise infrastructure for cost-effectiveness, and implement best practices to enable rapid product delivery and smooth user experiences. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing DevOps team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Manage team workload and priorities, ensuring efficient use of resources to support product development and deployment timelines. Conduct regular one-on-ones and performance evaluations, identifying skill development needs and growth opportunities within the team. Cloud Infrastructure Management (GCP) Oversee and manage our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment, optimising it for scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency. Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure components, including compute, storage, networking, and security. Ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and disaster recovery mechanisms are in place to maintain high availability and quick issue resolution. CI/CD Pipeline Development and Automation Lead the design and refinement of CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid, reliable code deployment and integration across multiple environments. Drive automation of infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment processes, ensuring consistent and repeatable workflows. Collaborate with development teams to optimize deployment processes and reduce time-to-market for new features and updates. Security and Compliance Ensure cloud infrastructure and application deployments follow security best practices, including IAM policies, data encryption, and vulnerability management. Conduct regular security audits, implement compliance checks, and address any identified vulnerabilities. Maintain documentation and establish policies to ensure adherence to regulatory and compliance standards relevant to the industry. Operational Excellence and Monitoring Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for system reliability, performance, and deployment efficiency. Implement advanced monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively detect and address issues before they impact users. Perform root cause analysis for critical incidents, document resolutions, and implement preventive measures. Cross-functional Collaboration Partner with Development, Product, and QA teams to support seamless integration and alignment of development, testing, and deployment processes. Communicate regularly with stakeholders to provide updates on system health and ongoing DevOps initiatives/projects. Serve as the primary point of contact for all DevOps-related matters, providing clarity on infrastructure changes and technical requirements. This role requires out-of-hours support (via a rota) to address urgent DevOps issues, ensuring the reliability and availability of critical systems. Payment for this support is made via the companies ‘out of hours working’ policy’ Requirements Essential Experience in managing a DevOps team. Deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform services (e.g., Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Functions, BigQuery) and infrastructure-as-code (IAC) tools such as Terraform or Google Cloud Deployment Manager. Proven experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) and configuration management (e.g., Ansible, Chef, or Puppet). Strong understanding of cloud security best practices, IAM, and network security within a GCP environment. Proficiency in monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Stackdriver) and experience managing incident response. Strong track record of managing and mentoring DevOps teams, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Desirable Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and other containerisation tools; experience in eCommerce or online marketplaces Benefits The salary on offer for this role is up £80,000 to £90,000 per annum, depending on experience.
