The Opportunity
As an external communications officer you will be an important part of the wider marketing and communications team.
You will support the team in delivering a broad range of communications content that positively positions Arup with its intended stakeholders. You will be part of a wider team focused on building, maintaining and protecting Arup’s reputation in support of strategic must win activity.
You’ll be working with a range of media, influencers, partner press offices and other institutions, supporting the delivery of integrated campaigns as well as being the first point of call for reactive enquires. You’ll be writing and editing content across paid, earned and owned channels that positions Arup effectively with its intended audiences.
The role will require you to work on a wide variety of subject matter, turning complex, technical expertise into compelling stories. In your day to day work you’ll have alignment to 2 – 3 Portfolios and the geographies business partner and will work closely with senior marketing and comms business partners to identify stories to engage journalists, clients and other stakeholders. You will get involved in guiding and supporting junior colleagues helping to foster a positive working environment.
The post holder will be developed professionally through the UKIMEA M&C network. This role reports to the External Communications Lead.

1. Have excellent writing skills – able to write compelling copy for a range of audiences and channels including press releases and quick fire commentary.
2. Have an appetite for proactive media coverage – someone who enjoys picking up the phone and speaking to journalists regularly.
3. Have the ability to collaborate, build positive relationships and influence a broad range of stakeholders – from marketing, public affairs and vis comms colleagues to senior subject experts.
4. Have the ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure.
5. Have a “finger on the pulse” in terms of the news agenda.
6. Excellent time management and ability to prioritise between competing demands.
