Job overview
We are pleased to offer a position for an experienced Telephonist/Receptionist in our Bedford Hospital Phlebotomy Department. We are looking for a person to join a well-established team to undertake Telephone/Reception duties in the Out-patients department throughout the Trust as directed.
* Band 2 Part time Telephonist/Receptionist required to work at Gilbert Hitchcock House.
* Monday to Friday 10am - 3pm
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have day-to-day responsibility for the administration of the relevant Patient Information system and the Reception area. They will work as part of a team providing front-line telephone/administration services to the department, answering the telephone to both internal and external callers and arranging patient transport as required. Welcome patients and visitors to the department and book outpatient blood test appointments. You will need to be physically fit and able to lift.
This is a busy area with a high throughput of work, and staff are required to work efficiently as part of a team while maintaining courtesy, tact, and diplomacy at all times.
Ensure that the Reception and Work area is well maintained at all times.

The Key Responsibilities of the post are:
* To participate in routine Telephone/Reception service.
* Working alone if required and prioritising work accordingly.
* To be aware of and comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental, and food hygiene.
* Undertake training for prevention and control of infection.
* To manage a large throughput of patients, treating each as an individual and behaving professionally at all times.

Qualifications
Experience
* Previous experience working with patients in a caring environment.
* Previous experience in a Reception (face-to-face role).
* Previous experience in a busy department.
* Awareness and understanding of health and safety protocols.
Knowledge
* Able to communicate accurately and concisely with patients, their carers/relatives, and other members of staff.
* Ability to perform Receptionist duties required for Phlebotomy procedures in a competent manner.
Personal skills
* Ability to prioritise tasks where appropriate.
* Able to work as part of a team and accept direction from senior or more experienced staff.
