We’re seeking an enthusiastic individual with experience in committee work to join our Democratic Services team.
Our ideal candidate combines exceptional interpersonal skills, knowledge of local governance, and a can-do attitude that transforms challenges into opportunities. Your organisational abilities will be key in balancing a variety of responsibilities, providing constitutional advice, and supporting critical decision-making processes. Proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office and Teams would also be advantageous.

About the role:
As a Democratic Services Officer at Exeter City Council, you’ll be at the heart of local democracy, playing a crucial role in shaping our community’s future. This fast-paced position offers a unique blend of challenges and rewards, perfect for those who thrive in a dynamic environment.

As a Democratic Services Officer, your work will involve:
1. Organising and attending evening council committee meetings, bringing together elected Councillors and key stakeholders.
2. Supporting committee proceedings in line with legal and constitutional requirements.
3. Safeguarding the integrity of regulatory and scrutiny functions within our decision-making framework.
4. Assisting elected members in their induction and development.
5. Sharing your professional expertise in constitutional and procedural guidance to empower officers and Councillors.
6. Conducting varied and in-depth research to develop compelling and informative reports.
7. Managing essential administrative tasks to ensure the proper functioning of local government.

We are a small and energetic team that thrives on collaboration, working closely together to ensure the delivery of the democratic functions at Exeter City Council. Our team works with both officers and elected Councillors, offering support and advice on a variety of issues.
