Calero, the leading technology expense management solution for complex enterprises, is looking for a Database Administrator in our Edinburgh office working a hybrid schedule (2 days in the office). Reporting to IT Platform manager, you will work within the SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) team, assisting with the management our global SQL environment which exists in Azure, AWS, OCI and our data centres in the UK and US. As a DBA you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance tasks, researching, applying hotfixes, upgrades, diagnosing issues, and providing suggestions on how to improve the delivery and management of our services within our client Hosted environments. This position is subject to a hybrid schedule. Duties and Responsibilities of the job:
* Perform system maintenance including backups, performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring and alerting to ensure optimal system performance.
* Assist with installations and upgrades of databases on Hosted environments.
* Provide database administration, technical assistance and incident investigations to support other teams.
* Develop and monitor dashboards using tools like Redgate and Azure Application Insights.
* Working with Azure log analytics to query event data and perform investigations.
* Build knowledge articles for new processes and update existing articles for internal use to support learning and reference.
* Provide advice to Software Engineers in the effective use of SQL queries.
* Develop queries to collect event data from hosted systems for central management and reporting.
* Advise on troubleshooting, exception processing needs and best practices; interacts with systems administrators, other IT groups and management to support integration.
* Work through assigned tickets, looking for solutions and raising questions during regular team meetings where encountering blockers.
A minimum of 3 years working with SQL DBA tools and managing performance tuning and problem solving on SQL 2016+ using Standard, Enterprise and SQL Azure.
* Knowledge of SQL best practices, but importantly when and when not to implement.
* Experience working with Windows operating systems, understanding event logs and configuration of OS to maximize SQL performance.
* Working knowledge of MS Visual Studio with C# and SQL stored procedures.
* T-SQL development, including Stored Procedures, functions, views.
* Strong knowledge of the Microsoft environment relating to SQL services including connectivity, security, permissions, data transfer methods and architecture methodologies.
* Experience using Redgate, QueryStore and Azure Application Insights or equivalent tools to manage and monitor SQL environments.
* Ability to translate business requirements into a software solution designs.
* Oracle Database knowledge and performance investigations desired but not required.
