Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a major teaching hospital of the University of Liverpool and has been approved as a supra-regional centre for cardiac surgery, epilepsy surgery and major trauma amongst others.
The successful applicant will join the Paediatric Radiology Team, currently 11.7 WTE Consultant Radiologists and 6 specialist radiology trainees. They will be trained in all aspects of paediatric radiology at Alder Hey and neonatal radiology at the Liverpool Women's Hospital. There will be opportunity to undergo subspecialty training in paediatric intervention, Cardiac and MSK radiology; other subspecialty interests can also be considered. The appointee will be encouraged to participate in audit and research as well as teaching. The purpose of this document is to act as a guide to the duties which may be required. It is not to provide an exhaustive list and other duties may be required in accordance with the grade of post and the competence of the holder. The job description may, from time to time, change following consultation with the post holder.
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake general reporting, fluoroscopy and ultrasound, CT and MRI reporting under the supervision of the Consultant Radiologists. There will also be opportunities to assist with vascular and interventional procedures.
On-call: the successful applicant will participate in a 1 in 10 on call rota. A Consultant Radiologist is always available on-call; trainees undertake emergency reporting and procedures under the direction of, or at the request of the on-call Consultant. With increasing experience and competence, the holder of the sub-specialist training post will have the opportunity to take on a greater degree of responsibility for emergency radiology.
The post is open to trainees who will have completed at least 5 years of a Specialist Registrar Training Programme in Radiology by 1st August. UK trainees should have obtained CCT by the start date (or be within 3 years post-CCT). All candidates should be eligible for registration with the GMC. For International trainees, it would be desirable to have FRCR qualification for entry to the programme. Equivalent qualifications or experience will only be considered if there are no suitable applicants with FRCR qualification. Post-CCT candidates must have proof of CCT.

The new Hospital in the Park building was completed in September 2015 and we have a completely new, state of the art radiology department with fully updated equipment. The Department of Radiology is in a central location on the ground floor of the hospital. The department performs approximately 73,000 examinations per year.
