We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Merchandise Buyer to join our team. This role is focused on sourcing and purchasing non-fashion general merchandise, including home and storage products, toys, kids' items, and electronics. If you have a strong background in market research, supplier sourcing (particularly in the Far East), and negotiating contracts, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities:
* Product Sourcing & Market Research: Conduct in-depth market research to identify new products, trends, and innovative suppliers within general merchandise categories (not fashion).
* Supplier Negotiation & Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with Far Eastern suppliers, negotiating contracts, pricing, and terms to secure the best value for the company.
* Buying Strategy & Product Selection: Develop and implement purchasing strategies that align with company goals, ensuring a diverse, competitive, and commercially successful product range.
* Inventory & Sales Performance: Monitor stock levels and product performance, making strategic adjustments to maximise sales and profitability.
* Collaboration: Work closely with sales, marketing, and logistics teams to forecast demand and ensure smooth product flow.
* Trade Show & Exhibition Attendance: Attend international trade shows, particularly in China and other sourcing hubs, to expand supplier networks and identify emerging opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Essential: Minimum 2+ years of experience in a general merchandise buying role (not fashion-related).
* FMCG & General Merchandise Background: Experience in the home, storage, toys, electronics, or other general merchandise sectors is highly preferred.
* Far East Sourcing & Supplier Negotiation: Proven track record of working with suppliers based in China, India, and other Asian countries, negotiating pricing, MOQs, and contracts.
* Market Research & Product Development: Strong ability to analyse market trends, competitor products, and customer preferences to curate winning product ranges.
* Analytical & Commercial Acumen: Ability to analyse sales data, supplier performance, and market trends to inform purchasing decisions.
* Software Proficiency: Experience with inventory management systems and MS Office Suite.
