Elective orthopaedics are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join Ward 18 as a Ward Clerk.
The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, be able to use their own initiative to work individually as well as within a team environment.
This role will suit a people person, who has high organisational standards and good computer skills. In addition to effective interpersonal skills, the post holder will need to be flexible as they may be required to occasionally undertake cross site working to meet the needs of the service.
We are looking for a flexible individual, who can work hours between Monday and Friday between the hours of 10-18:00pm (4/5 shifts per week, there is flexibility around working days and hours for the right candidate)- Please discuss this prior to application. Flexibility within hours is required by the suitable candidate to cover annual leave/sickness as appropriate.
Main duties of the job
To provide and effecting day-to-day Ward Administration support to facilitate the smooth running of the Ward area under the direction and supervision of senior colleagues.
This job role covers clerical duties meeting and greeting staff, patients and visitors, the movement of case-notes around the trust, recording patient information, dealing with enquiries and liaising with clinicians.
You will be required to work within the multi-disciplinary team in a ward area

Job responsibilities
To treat all patients, visitors and colleagues with courtesy and respect; maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Maintaining a clean and tidy environment, and reporting all incidents / accidents to Senior Staff
To keep patient centre system up to date, including admission transfers and discharges of patients
To be responsible for inpatient / outpatient notes ensuring:
They are available and ready for use when needed
That reports, care plans etc. are filed in notes
That notes are available for coding after discharge of patients
All medical staff / midwifery staff sign results and ensure timely filing of results
To be responsible for collection and delivery of post
To ensure smooth running of the ward by
Keeping ward books up to date
Keeping list of patients admitted / discharged
Making follow-up appointments for patients
Bed state and ward boards updated daily
Ensure evening admissions / discharges are entered on the patient centre system
Where reports are signed and notes have left the ward area, ensure reports are forwarded to appropriate area
Liaise directly with secretaries re: reports and notes as necessary
To ensure all stationery and information booklets are ordered when needed
To assist in the general running and maintenance of the ward as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
To bleep members of staff as required
Photocopy notes for transfer to other hospitals
Ensure transfer of notes form for coding office is undertaken
To be aware of emergency procedures
Answer telephone calls and queries from clients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team, forwarding enquiries to appropriate staff

Training & Qualifications
* Educated to secondary school level
* Ability to carry out duties under instruction
* Good standard of written and spoken English
* Customer care training
Experience
* Experience of working with the general public
* Basic knowledge of clerical duties and responsibilities
* Worked in hospital or care setting
* Previous experience as a ward Clerk
