An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) with specialist knowledge in Epilepsy. The Epilepsy Nurse is based within the Dudley Learning Disability Specialist Health Services at the Ridge Hill Centre.
The Epilepsy Nurse works in close partnership with primary, secondary, and tertiary care services to provide active support to people with Learning Disabilities who also have epilepsy.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry their own caseload and will have responsibility for carrying out nursing and risk assessments of adults with epilepsy and for developing epilepsy management plans and emergency protocols.
The post holder will also be expected to offer individual support for appointments with tertiary services and to attend regional epilepsy nurse meetings/educational programmes, so although core hours will normally be 08.30 till 16.30 Monday and Tuesday, the post holder will also need to be flexible to meet the needs of the service.
The post holder will be expected to be able to plan and deliver relevant training and education to families and social care staff.
Job responsibilities
Key Requirements
1. To provide information on investigations, diagnosis, treatment, concordance, and risk in a sensitive manner.
2. To support clients to attend epilepsy reviews and consultations as necessary. This may mean a variation in core hours.
3. To be responsible for the development of individualised risk assessments and epilepsy management protocols and regularly reviewing and evaluating them. This will include a range of interventions in conjunction with individuals, their families, paid carers, and other professionals.
4. Demonstrate specialist epilepsy knowledge and skills through clinical practice. Care delivery should be evidence-based and reflect National standards and guidelines.
5. Work as an autonomous practitioner with own clinical caseload and be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of own work.
6. To adhere to the NMC Standards of Conduct, Performance, and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives.
7. To deliver training and development to health professionals, social care, statutory, and voluntary organisations.
8. To participate in formal supervision as a supervisor and a supervisee and provide advice and support to other health care workers and students when necessary.
9. To maintain contemporaneous records using appropriate electronic systems.
10. To actively participate in personal, team, and service development.
11. To make recommendations to minimise specific risks posed by the diagnosis of epilepsy.
12. To be working towards competent nurse level of the Learning Disability Epilepsy Nurse Specialist Framework.
Person Specification
Education/Qualification
* oRNLD/RNMH (Active on NMC Register) with a minimum of 3 years post registration experience in a relevant area of practice.
* oEvidence of recent personal and professional development linked to management and leadership skills.
* oMentorship Training/ENB Teaching and Assessing/NVQ Assessor or equivalent.
* oDiploma or higher in epilepsy care.
Experience
* oDemonstrable evidence of the ability to supervise the work of junior health care workers.
* oSignificant experience of working with people with active epilepsy.
* oDemonstrable ability to work effectively with team members, clinical colleagues, and managers.
* oDemonstrable evidence of involvement in continuous service improvement, which may include audit initiatives and research.
