Electrical Shift Engineer

Full time, 40 hours per week
Salary £36,000 - £38,000 depending on experience plus basic plus Serco benefits.
Main Purpose:
To provide safe and efficient maintenance of the Electrical services and equipment to ensure safe, economical, and efficient delivery of engineering services, plant and equipment. Covering a continental shift pattern day and night, 12 hours shift 7am-7pm (days) 7pm-7am (Nights).
The post holder will support in providing day-to-day delivery of an Estates maintenance service to NHS customer's properties, electrical and mechanical services with a sound knowledge of:
* Building services control systems (BMS)
* IET Wiring Regulations
* Fire alarm systems
* Emergency Lighting
* UPS & IPS Systems
Main Accountabilities:
* To ensure that PMS targets are met, to minimise the risk of getting performance penalties.
* To communicate effectively with staff, peers, customers, patients, visitors, contractors, other stakeholders and all levels of management within Serco.
* To have knowledge to complete electrical breakdown repair on hospital equipment, to carry out PPM on hospital equipment plant.
* To carry out reactive repairs, fault finding, servicing, commissioning and maintenance to a wide range of Services, Plant and Equipment within all areas of the Hospital as directed by Supervisors or Managers.
* To carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance to a wide range of Plant and Equipment.
* To work in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations and Best Practice Guidelines.
* To always work in a safe and responsible manner with full regard for own and other's safety.
* To attend work in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System.
* To actively participate in the Computerised Labour Control System, including accurate and punctual completion of Work Order Documentation.
* To use personal communication equipment as requested.
* To be prepared to attend work or work beyond expected finishing time in exceptional circumstances, as requested by Supervisors or Managers.
* Communicate to Supervisors or Managers unrepaired faults or defects or requirements for Spare Parts.
* To attend on-site and off-site training as required.
* To be aware of how the Electrical Craftsperson Role influences and the wider company objectives.
* To direct, plan and prioritise all activities and provide guidance to ensure maintenance work carried out by all the Estates groups is effective and efficient, meeting defined standards in a cost-effective manner in line with service demands.
* Monitor all estates service tasks fully, utilising computerised Facilities Management System in accordance with Policies & Procedures across all trade groups ensuring that all response, resolution, and completion times are adhered to. Also be involved with the updating of PPM, asset records and development of workload management through the FM Management and other systems.
* To ensure all documentation is completed wholly and accurately by the estate's workforce.
* To ensure all work is carried out in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations and Health & Safety Legislation. E.g. IET Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008 & HTM06-02 Electrical safety guidance for low voltage systems.
* Understand a wide range of Regulations pertaining to the delivery of estates services and be able to interpret Statutory, Mandatory and Regulatory documentation, advice and implement procedures to ensure compliance.
* To attend, be part of and represent Serco at operational meetings as directed by the Estate Management Team both internally to the service and to the customer.
* To work and operate in a pro-active, flexible, positive, and highly professional manner with strong self-motivation and customer focused approach.
What you will need for the role:
* Completion of a recognised appropriate Electrical Apprenticeship or other relevant structured Training Program.
* Appropriate City & Guilds and or BTEC certification.
* Proven experience of working in a similar environment.
* Knowledge and understanding of Electrical Building Services.
* Good communication and inter-personal skills.
* Practical and theoretical knowledge electrical systems.
* Knowledge and implementation of systems and procedures for ensuring safe systems of work for employees and contractors.
* Practical understanding of statutory and non-statutory compliance requirements within a health or related environment.
* Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
* Ability to work well under pressure.
* Knowledge and understanding of CAFM & BMS systems.
