Salary: Birmingham: £56,940 to £71,160 London: £64,620 to £80,760 Location: London or Birmingham, in office twice per week. In this role as Carbon Manager working client side on this massive project, you will be providing technical direction on carbon minimisation, ensuring the programme meets ambitious sustainability goals while delivering value for money. Working at the heart of this project, you will be engaging with stakeholders across government, supply chains, contractors, and industry leaders to drive innovation, reduce emissions, and shape the future of sustainable infrastructure. You’ll oversee critical aspects of carbon performance, ensuring the successful integration of sustainability principles across all stages of the project, from civil works to rail systems and station design. This is a pivotal leadership role within a team recognised as an industry leader in sustainability and carbon reduction. Essential Requirements: Strong background in carbon management or sustainability, with 6–10 years of experience (consultancy, rail, nuclear, construction, or energy sectors ideal). Technical expertise in carbon reduction, including materials, methodologies, and supply chain integration. Proven ability to influence stakeholders and translate complex technical concepts into actionable strategies for diverse audiences. Experience managing and assuring carbon-related deliverables across large, complex programmes. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels. Public speaking skills and ability to deliver information to a wide range of people. Desirable: Membership in professional organisations such as IEMA or equivalent. Experience in developing and delivering KPIs, sustainability targets, or industry standards. Commercial awareness to evaluate tender submissions with a focus on carbon performance. Familiarity with certifications such as BREEAM.
