About Hertford Regional College
Hertford Regional College is a vibrant, dynamic further education college with campuses in Broxbourne and Ware. It provides a wide range of post-16 professional and technical education and training to meet the needs of local employers in key sectors and discrete provision for learners with high needs, higher education and commercial programmes. The large majority of the College’s learners live in Broxbourne, East Herts, London Borough of Enfield, Epping Forest, and Harlow.
The Role
With ambitious plans for the College’s future, the Board is key in steering its strategic direction, ensuring financial stability, the delivery of high quality education and skills, and engaging with its community to meet the needs of students, employers and the local, regional and national economy. Board members use their professional business expertise, insights and strategic leadership experience to help deliver these objectives and inspire new generations of learners.
As we further our vision and realise our ambitions for the College’s future, we are looking for new Members to join our Board.
Time Commitment
Preparations for and attendance at meetings and attendance at the Board’s one-day Annual Conference is required. Invitations are also provided throughout the year to join College events as we recognise and celebrate the success and achievements of our students.
The Board meets four times a year. Attendance on-site is required. Supported by a committee structure focused on the business critical aspects of College operations, all members are also expected to join at least one committee aligned with their professional expertise and experience. These meet 3-4 times a year. Meetings are online.
Appointments are for a term of four years.
The Benefits to You
This is a hugely rewarding way to invest your time and expertise not only for personal and professional development but also for the benefit of our students and the local community. The government's plans for a modern and ambitious vision for the business landscape makes this an exciting time to join us as we explore the opportunities this presents for the College to contribute to realise this vision.
Members receive a comprehensive induction and ongoing support and development. There are also opportunities to take on other, specific governance related responsibilities.
Who we are looking for
Enthusiastic, talented people who can add value to discussions and provide support and constructive challenge to our leadership. Based on our strategic ambitions and overall responsibilities, we are particularly seeking interest from Accountants with substantial leadership experience in their profession.
As the College plays a pivotal role in Hertfordshire, its communities and the surrounding areas, an understanding of the area is also critical either through having lived or worked here. And, whilst having non-executive/board-level experience is desirable, greater value is placed in your ability and overall experience.
We particularly welcome interest from candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds who will bring a mix of skills and perspectives to our Board, so we remain as reflective of and as diverse as our communities.
Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, the successful candidate(s) will also be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
