This Occupational Hygienist will report to the Health & Safety Manager and will work within Health and Safety based in any of our Eastern, London or Southern offices. This can include Bury St Edmunds, Borehamwood, Maidstone, Crawley, Ipswich, or Central London. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £61,723 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after the probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

JOB PURPOSE:
You will give competent occupational Health & Safety advice to business advisors, managers, staff, contractors, and the public to promote the requirements of the Health & Safety management system.
DIMENSIONS:
As an occupational hygienist, you will help develop a comprehensive occupational hygiene programme for UK Power Networks, with emphasis on the development of controls to minimise risk associated with short and long-term health effects caused by both acute and chronic exposure to chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards that can affect the health and safety of the workforce. This will help the UK Power Networks respond to legislative requirements and safeguard the health, safety, and wellbeing of our workforce.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Provide Occupational Hygiene focused advice to other advisors, managers, employees, contractors, and the general public.
* Monitor changes in legislation, standards, guidelines, and technical developments concerning Occupational Hygiene, acting on changes that may impact UK Power Networks' legal and moral obligations.
* Consider changes that are required to policies and procedures and quantify the impact these changes will have on UKPN.
* Monitor compliance and undertake reviews of existing procedures, communicating relevant changes to those affected.
* Create new Occupational Hygiene procedures, driving implementation and monitoring to ensure effectiveness.
* Conduct evaluations of roles and tasks to identify potential health hazards, the likelihood of adverse health effects, and appropriate controls, interpreting and communicating these with the relevant people.
* Facilitate and undertake assessments of tools, equipment, and PPE, working with suppliers, managers, and staff to ensure compliance and suitability.
* Attend and participate in Stay Safe, Health, Safety & Environment Committee (HESEC), Risk Management H & S Forums, or specific committees and Safety Action Teams.
* Work with the management team to implement realistic short/long-term goals, advising on priorities, documenting following the HSS Strategy, and providing ongoing monitoring of performance.
* Engage and consult with Trade Union Safety Representatives following the Safety Reps Charter.
* Participate in and coordinate compliance audits of legislative requirements and/or H & S procedures in accordance with Business Systems procedures and external auditors.
* Help develop H & S training on health hazards and the proper use of PPE and equipment for implementation/communication to employees and contractors.
* Support the H & S incident investigation process by participating in investigations.
* Collaborate with regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
* Provide H & S reporting and trend analysis requirements to the management team.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
As the Occupational Hygienist, you will be a member of the Health and Safety team and will work with management across UK Power Networks, which includes working as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes other health and safety professionals and occupational health nurses/physicians.
You will have the necessary attributes to represent UK Power Networks at operational and senior management level with external stakeholders, demonstrating experience of H & S.
The post holder may be based from any of the locations listed; however, will travel to other business sites when necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Hold the National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Certificate or be willing to work towards this qualification.
* British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) Certificate of Operational Competence.
* Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH).
* An understanding of the Health, Safety and Environmental legislation relevant to Distribution Network/System Operator activities would be beneficial.
* Experience undertaking active monitoring, assessments, safety inspections, or audits.
* Stakeholder management skills within a team, and with staff and suppliers within the business, with the ability to communicate, present, and plan at all levels.
* Focused on the principles of customer service, both to internal and external customers.
* Hold a valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel across UKPN sites as/when required.
