Job Description
Due to continued expansion and company growth, we now have a new opportunity for a Shipping Coordinator to join the team at Airedale. This role has responsibility for ensuring that all export orders (both equipment and spares) are shipped to the customers as per the approved method. This role will deal with internal departments including Sales and Spares Order Processing, Accounts, International Sales, Manufacturing, Testing, Quality Control, and packing. Externally, it involves communicating with customers to keep them informed of the progress of their shipment and to advise of any problems.
Key Responsibilities
* Liaise with other departments within Airedale (such as Order Processing, Manufacturing, Test, Accounts) to progress the order due for export.
* Open communication with the customer to keep them informed of the progress of their orders and of the shipment details.
* Negotiate freight rates with forwarders and agents. Cost does not always determine the outcome as, at times, the speed of the delivery will be more important than achieving a low rate.
* A variety of shipping terms are used, so experience with Incoterms is preferable but not essential.
* Strive to ensure that the customer is receiving a good quality of service for the freight cost obtained while also ensuring that the company is able to provide this service at a reasonable return.
* Advise the cost of freight for export quotations to our International Sales Engineers and also advise of any special requirements known (e.g., if a crane is required for loading). If the method of shipment requested is unsuitable for the equipment being quoted for, then the International Sales Engineers are made aware of this and given an alternative.
* Liaise with customers for export orders being shipped under EXW terms to ensure their forwarder collects the goods on time.
* Advise the customer how many trailers or containers may be needed.
* Ensure that the company is complying with current legislation for export shipments. Examples of this would be Pre-Inspections and Chamber documentation.
* Deal with local Chamber of Commerce for all certification and legalisation requirements.
* Check and sign off all invoices received from our freight forwarders and agents to ensure they are correct and match the rates obtained.
* Provide cover for the UK Shipping Team in the event of absence through either illness or holiday entitlement.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate should have the following skills:
* Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers, both internally and externally.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
* Candidates with experience in Export Shipping are preferable but not essential.
