Overview
Due to business expansion, we are looking to recruit on a permanent basis an experienced Electrical Controls Design Engineer to join our team at the Tamworth facility. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference within the business and will be fully supported by the management team. Training will be provided where necessary.
The successful candidate will support the business at supplier and customer sites when needed. The role will support all New Project Introduction activities within the business as projects require. This role is at the front line for us, joining a successful team, and is where the company's reputation is born, the position is a key role giving the candidate the ability to make a real difference to current and future business.
Responsibilities
1. Minimum 5+ years in a general Electrical and Electronic Control Design, electrical and PLC environment
2. Use of AutoCAD (electrical) or Solidworks Electrical or similar CAD experience.
3. Production of Block Diagrams/Schematic/Wiring drawings for HV and LV systems (motors, heaters, compressors, etc.) and associated control systems.
4. Production of software controls specifications for system design, including extensive experience in CAN/LIN applications.
5. Experience in specifying hardware control units.
6. Experience in software specification writing for an external supplier and technical management of the supplier.
7. Experience with temperature, pressure regulation with PID and suitable control loops.
8. Extensive software testing and reporting experience.
9. Knowledge of typical requirements for Fieldbus Systems (Modbus and/or CAN/LIN and/or MVB and/or similar)
10. Software testing and reporting experience essential.
11. Experience in the use of Labview and development of test environments for R&D purposes.
12. Testing and Fault finding on control systems.
13. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
14. Production of Documents (Specifications, User Instructions, Test and Validation Reports, etc.)
15. Ability to interpret relevant BS/EN/ISO Standards and apply to system design.
16. Experience of commissioning of electrical systems, controls and panels.
17. Ability to work both as an individual and also, most importantly, as part of a team.
18. Ability to communicate with team members, customers and suppliers.
19. A knowledge of thermal systems would be helpful but by no means essential. A good all-around Controls Engineer who is able to adapt and has a willingness to learn as the business grows/diversifies is the main requirement.
Typical Tasks
1. Design of Control systems mainly for vehicle thermal systems.
2. Specifying of electrical and electronic control components.
3. Writing software control specification.
4. Management of software suppliers to ensure deliver and customisations are managed.
5. Management of the testing phase of software to ensure system operates as specified.
6. Management of customer project requirements to ensure fulfilment.
7. Design and construction of simple test equipment for simulation and software testing of systems.
8. Writing of User/Maintenance Instructions for Machines.
9. Understand control and power schematics.
10. Assisting Sales with general design concepts, block diagrams and costs for electrical components.
11. Occasional site visits (customers and suppliers).
