We are looking for a hard working, diligent, methodical, organised and flexible Associate Practitioner (AP) to join the Microbiology team. The post holder will work as part of the biomedical support team assisting qualified Biomedical Scientists (BMSs) or higher in delivering a diagnostic laboratory service to clinicians within the hospital and GPs in the community. You shall participate in using laboratory equipment such as the BD Bactec FX200 and 400, BD Auto-Prep, BD Phoenix, Centrifuges, Cepheid GeneXpert, Densitometers, FilmArray, MALDI-ToF, Fume Cupboards, Class I and II Microbiology Safety Cabinets (MSC), Urine Analyser, etc, in the processing of patient samples and isolates under the supervision of a BMS or higher. In return, the department shall provide a conducive environment for the learning and development. Full details will be discussed at interview. Supervise MLA staff, prepare MLA and AP work rotas while liaising with liaising with Senior Biomedical Scientists and Operational Managers to resolve rota challenges. Train new MLAs in the protocols for use of the Pathology IT system, telephone enquiries and communication of results. Previous practical experience in biomedical laboratory techniques or equivalent would be desirable. You are expected to possess excellent manual dexterity and technical skills and the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team. Laboratory training in all aspects of the role shall be provided to the successful candidate.
